The Center for Architecture and AIANY are currently accepting applications for the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant. The purpose of the grants is to further the personal and professional development of an architect in early or mid-career through travel. Travel plans should be focused on a selected topic of interest to the individual, rather than a part of a larger humanitarian or institutional endeavor. If appropriate, the winner may be asked to present at the Center for Architecture upon return.
The Charles Correa Foundation is organizing its second annual Z-Axis Conference entitled Buildings As Ideas, which will focus on buildings and the nature of the questions they raise. The inaugural conference, Great City... Terrible Place, which was held in March 2015, intended to describe the city.

Buildify - Architecture in Development’s new initiative is seeking new projects that aspire to improve the lives of rural or urban communities. Buildify supports community-driven architecture projects, helping them connect to the expertise and resources needed to upscale their impact.
THE CITY ABOVE THE CITY challenges architects and students of architecture from around the world to push the boundaries of modern wood building design in the urban environment. Entrants are asked to select a centrally-located building in one of the world’s most populated cities and develop an innovative wood design solution that adds density through additional floor area. Known buildings, especially buildings under threat of demolition are encouraged as sites for revitalization, new development and innovation.

The European Capital of Culture – PAFOS2017 announces the architectural/artistic Open Call entitled “SECOND NATURE”, for the creation of light, small scale structures that will be placed in the Municipal Garden, in the centre of Pafos-CYPRUS. The Open Call is open to professional architects, artists, designers and students of architecture schools of member states of the International Union of Architects (UIA).
Van Alen Institute and West Palm Beach launched Shore to Core, a design and research competition to reimagine the West Palm Beach downtown and understand how cities impact wellbeing. In the design competition, two finalist teams will be selected to participate in a 3-month design process and receive $45,000 to develop their work. The research team will receive $40,000 to develop their work, $10,000 to implement their pilot study.
Blanca, a small town huddling at the foot of Peña Negra, a volcanic black rock, is reinventing parts of its structure, helped by impulses from artists’ platform AADK Spain. “Conflicts of interest” are said to compromise the impartiality of research, but what would it mean to be disinterested?
