Archisource presents ‘Drawing of the Year 2019’. Our first competition celebrating the talent of architecture and design students and young professionals through a single drawing. With four categories to win from, we are celebrating the extensive variety of drawings that are created around the world each year.

This competition is in no way limited to architecture and we very much welcome those from other arts and design industries.

We are collaborating with a number of exciting partners to provide a collection of prizes worth a total of £1,500 including; a limited edition physical award designed by Mamou-Mani Architects, an Artist 15.6

By bringing together two contiguous non-constructible plots, Shelle and Xavier are lucky enough to have one of the last building land in the Croix Saint Jérôme sector in Noisy-sur-Ecole (Seine et Marne). This wooded area with its diffuse habitat borders the Massif des Trois Pignons, the western part of the particularly wild Fontainebleau forest. The rocky chaos, sandy stretches and vegetation that compose it once served as a backdrop for the Barbizon painters’ school. This massif is the most original natural area in the parisian basin and is an internationally renowned hiking and climbing destination.

What/how do/can we teach/learn design today?

From Beaux-Arts to Bauhaus, and the polytechnic schools to the present-day schools, paradigms of design education have shifted and evolved, each experimenting with different pedagogical philosophies and methodologies, relevant to their context. How are the contemporary pedagogy modeled and structured? What are the methods explored and experimented, and why? How are the contemporary design educations align with the shifting topography of culture and environment? What are the emerging opportunities of design education within today’s social, cultural and ecological context?

Over the past two decades of practice, landscape architect Thomas Woltz has forged a body of work that integrates the beauty and function of built forms with an understanding of complex biological systems and restoration ecology. Edouard François, a former student of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, created his own architecture, town planning, and design agency in 1998.
