North American Copper in Architecture Awards

Submissions for the North American Copper in Architecture Awards (NACIA) 2023 are now open. Now in its 16th year, the awards presented by the Copper Development Association celebrate distinctive copper building projects. Projects of any size or type are eligible, but should feature architectural elements of copper, brass, or bronze; have been completed in the last 3 years; & be located in the United States or Canada. Entrants should submit basic project details & photos for consideration by March 31, 2023. There is no cost to submit. Submissions are evaluated based on design, craftsmanship, integration of copper alloys, excellence in innovation or restoration, & sustainable building strategies. Winning projects receive an award, extensive exposure in architectural/construction media, & recognition in CDA’s outreach programs. Where Are We Now: 50 Years After Roe

January 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the Roe v Wade ruling, just a year after this landmark legislation was overturned by the Supreme Court. In recognition of this historic event, and in response to the damaging repercussions of the recent Dobbs decision, the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation is convening the panel discussion, “Where Are We Now: 50 Years After Roe.“

"Designing Friction": Luna Maurer x Elisava Lecture

The second session of the 2022/23 Elisava Masters’ Talks, a lecture series organized by Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, will focus on the evolution of technology over the last 20 years and its impact on the work of the Dutch studio Moniker. Book Launch: From Territory to Detail

This Thursday, January 19, at 1:30 PM (5:30 PM in Italy), the Gradoni Hall at the Università Iuav di Venezia library will host the book launch for Del territorio al detalle (Bifurcaciones, 2021). Edited by architect and academic Germán Valenzuela, the volume serves as an effort to gather a significant portion of the Latin American architectural discourse from the last decade into a single publication.

Smiljan Radic Lecture / XXII Chile Architecture Biennial

Chilean architect Smiljan Radic will deliver a lecture this Wednesday, January 18, at 8:00 PM as part of the XXII Architecture and Urbanism Biennial of Chile: 'Vulnerable Habitats.' The XII BIAU at the XXII Chile Architecture Biennial

The XII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism: "Habitar al margen" (Living on the Margins), which opened in Mexico City last September 2022 alongside the MEXTRÓPOLI Festival, is expanding its reach through a traveling program. Throughout January and February 2023, it will be presented as part of the XXII Chilean Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism: "Vulnerable Habitats".

Hospital Heritage and Healing Landscapes: Call for Papers

The submission of papers for the six thematic sessions is open to all participants of the V International Seminar on Hospital Architecture History (V SIHAH).

The modern design of a protected life, assuming a passive body constructed individually in the disease-health opposition, focuses on the elimination of disease through the use of the hospital as a fundamental device for biomedical knowledge and intervention. However, health is permanently reinvented through its social, ecological, and political dimensions, and the medicalization of life centered on the individual is expanding into spaces composed of less static and more complex visions, problematized by (re)emerging challenges such as the recent Covid-19 pandemic.

Eduardo Souto de Moura receives solo exhibition in Seoul, South Korea

“Journey of an Architect” is the title of an exhibition dedicated to the work of Eduardo Souto de Moura, opening on January 17 in Seoul, South Korea. Exhibition “SANAA: Construction and structure with works of Walter Niedermayr”

The School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering of Politecnico di Milano opens the renovated exhibition space by displaying some of the most significant projects designed by Kazuyo Sejima, founder with Ryūe Nishizawa of SANAA in 1995, Pritzker Prize in 2010, and Professor at Politecnico di Milano since 2015.
