International Design Competition for Incheon Geomdan Museum·Library Cultural Complex

“Flexible Retreat” is a two stage architectural Competition organized by ArchTwist Ltd in association with Suvastu Properties Ltd. In the first stage, participants are asked to submit creative design concepts for a modular building system within the framework of Bangladesh’s tourism industry. The submitted entries will go through an extensive jury evaluation process where winners will be selected based on judging criteria.

ACA's 9th International Design Competition 2022 with the theme, “Building Envelope”. The building facade has acted as a major factor in manifesting environmentally conducive spaces and improving overall performance of the built form. While conventional architecture is known to have employed passive control techniques; contemporary buildings have used active or semi active controlling methods.
The competition calls for entries that have a strong focus on creating sustainable and environmentally viable prototype that is sensitive to the candidate’s own heritage & culture and geography.
Entries will be judged based on the solution proposed and how sensitively the issue has been addressed.

The 2022 edition of Architecture-in-Development’s (A--D) annual Global Challenge (#GC2022) is welcoming submissions from self-build communities worldwide. The deadline for submissions is 30 November 2022.

Beyond the rhetoric of the green and contemporary exploitation, the landscape is - in itself - an element of conflict. It is an alterity both considering the inhabited world and to the world of design. It questions new codes, aesthetics, tools, and vocabularies. It is therefore a probability. But the landscape is also otherness with respect to the inhabited world, it is a project that clarifies, reveals everything that instead the design world wants to mask, conceal, embellish, pacify. With this in mind, Seeds questions the original and primary meanings of the landscape and of our way of inhabiting the Earth: it investigates the landscape as a detector of the world’s asymmetries and, at the same time, as design alterity.

DEX (Design EXperimentation) is a yearly event hosted by INDA as a platform for experimentation unbounded by the reality or feasibility of design but grounded on research to challenge, explore and innovate through tangible ideas and concepts.
INDA, the International Program in Design and Architecture founded in 2006, is taught within the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
This is an open call to exceptional creative professionals, thinkers, makers and/or educators with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience and a Bachelor degree (Master degree or higher are preferred).
The curator of the DEX 2023 edition invites guests to explore the concept of RAW as design ethos through experimental workshops investigating physical materiality, digital technology, abstract ideas, across different design aspects and disciplines.
Submissions will close on 18.Nov.2022 and successful applicants will be notified on 25.Nov.2022

World Cities Day ends Urban October, a month to promote urban issues and solutions, on 31 October each year. It was first celebrated in Shanghai, China in 2014.

With Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, the Chinese avantgarde in architecture, research and teaching, product and interior design has arrived in Europe. In the exhibition Reflective Nostalgia, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu are convincing in the way they examine the historical and the contemporary as well as the listed and the everyday and to transform them into new uses in a respectful and future-oriented manner. In addition to their numerous conversions and new buildings in Asia, such as residential and office buildings, theatres, shops or, for example, a chapel and a whisky distillery, the exhibition also shows projects from Europe, including a restaurant in Paris, a hotel in London and the expansion of the creative quarter Cologne-Ehrenfeld with an office building. Neri&Hu also design products and showrooms for international companies, thus demonstrating their diverse skills and the quality of their work in all scales and disciplines. With design confidence, they create exciting, sometimes surprising spatial constellations – from found and recycled materials or building parts of the respective location and by adding new elements. Historicising set pieces are omitted, while the charm and character of the 'old' remains legible and tangible and thus identity-forming in Neri&Hu's positive reinterpretation of the nostalgic. Their transdisciplinary design approach is in the DNA of the studio. As early as 2004, they were co-founders of Design Republic, a multidisciplinary design platform in Shanghai. The success of the broad spectrum of their work is reflected in numerous international awards. They currently teach at the Yale School of Architecture and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Rossana Hu was also appointed Chair of the Department of Architecture at Tongji University in Shanghai in 2021. The exhibition installation features architectural models, photographs and videos, as well as a selection of furniture. Neri&Hu's alternative reading of historical contexts, including all the contradictions and details, as well as the unexpected spatial compositions with which they respond to them in a magnificent way, can be experienced.

Join us for the fifth edition of Z-axis – Form Follows Climate!

The Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried will show 34 photographs by Michael Nguyen in an exhibition. Martinsried is one of the two science suburbs of Munich, a district of the municipality of Planegg in the district of Munich in Bavaria. The exhibition, which take place in the foyer of the Institute, “build a bridge between science and arts”. The exhibition shows works from 2020 - 2022. Michael Nguyen shows architectural objects, plays of light and shadow, reflections and architectures captured in various cities across Europe.

Too much, too little, all at once. Too dirty, too salty, way too expensive. Water is an issue, if not the issue, for the present and future of our cities. Throughout our ten years practice, we addressed water issues with urban design, in projects across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

In ‘With Reference,’ Soo Chan of SCDA explores the fundamentals of architecture—going back to inspirations and precedents, examining basic building blocks and core values—in search of a universal spatial vocabulary for contemporary practice.

‘Facades: Beauty. Utility. Performance’ illustrates the depth and breadth of the many innovative exterior wall facades that were designed from 2007–2020 at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG). The featured projects, both built and unbuilt, are explored through photographs, renderings, model images, detail drawings, narratives, and illustrations. Each project addresses a series of environmental concerns, offering site-specific, performative solutions and innovative techniques that harvest resources and maximize efficiencies.

This book is an experiment on constructing a text starting—exclusively and strictly—from the materials of an architectural project. As in an archive, it contains all the documents produced by the design team, which become the only sources of a text that allows the reader to generalize the project’s contents and reflect on its process. An extensive masterplan is transforming the abandoned industrial area of Shougang, on the outskirts of Beijing, into one of the venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics Games. Within this process, the China Room, as a research center of the Politecnico di Torino dedicated to urbanization and architecture in China, was involved by Tsinghua University in the transformation of the former oxygen factory into a visitor center, working on industrial memory as a lever for a renovation of the existing site aimed at the overall sustainability of the masterplan.
