On June 16-17, Prague will be hosting one of the leading architecture and urbanist events in Europe. Most of the 49 world renowned experts who will speak at reSITE 2016: Cities in Migration have experienced migration themselves. Coming from 20 countries, they will bring innovative solutions and successful strategies for European and Western cities to come to terms painlessly with the influx of new residents. Carl Weisbrod, Chairman of the City Planning Commission of NYC, Professor Saskia Sassen, sociologist at Columbia University, and Michael Kimmelman, the Architecture Critic for The New York Times will come from New York City. A huge number of speakers will come from Germany. Besides the famous landscape architect, Martin Rein-Cano from Topotek 1, Berlin, we will meet one of the city planner of Munich and the co-founders of the initiative “Refugees Welcome.”
The festival aims for a social and cultural renewal of the Historic Center of Villena, which is stigmatized within the city for several reasons. The event has already received several awards.
Building Trust are happy to announce that we will be working alongside We Yone Child Foundation to design and build a new hall space for a school that we have been working on for the last 2 years. Building Trust have a number of sustainable design and build projects around the World in 2016, ranging from schools and housing to wildlife conservation and healthcare.
We are offering a hands on participatory workshop where you will gain experience in sustainable building techniques and understand more about humanitarian design while building worthwhile projects that will have a huge benefit to the local community. You will gain an insight into a number of building techniques and architectural styles.
In AAVS Brussels you will experiment with film with the cutting edge film director Luis Cerveró. Film will be addressed as a critical instrument to inquire on the role of architecture in providing a space of representation for contemporary political bodies. Brussels, home of Benelux, EU and NATO, will be taken as a paradigmatic example, and the European Parliament as a concrete case study. The output of the workshop will be short films directed by the students and produced with the support of a specialized team from the HELB.
MPavilion 2016 architect Bijoy Jain will discuss the concept of ‘lore’ and how it relates to his internationally renowned architectural practice, Studio Mumbai, in a free public lecture. Presented in partnership with MPavilion, the Wheeler Centre and the Melbourne School of Design, where the lecture will occur on July 26.
The international Summer School will take place in Liège from from August 20th to 27th. Forty students and recently graduated architects will be invited to rethink the future of the apartment buildings; products of the real estate boom of the '60s. Students will be led by four talented architects: Filipe Magalhaes (Fala Atelier), Hiraku Nissanke (OMMX), Matteo Costanzo (2A+P/A) & Bart Dehaene.
As a part of BAITASI Remade, Beijing Huarong Jinying Investment & Development Co., Ltd. and World Architecture Magazine will hold an international design competition to improve the BAITASI neighbourhood in Beijing.
The Master in City Sciences is also organizing the 2016 International Conference in City Sciences in Santiago, Chile on June 16th and 17th, following the success of last year’s conference in Shanghai, China.

why? Today we are in the midst of a paradox: although fast, web-based media seems to threaten the very existence of slow architecture media, the amount of p.o.p. magazines has increased in the last few years. Furthermore, and discarding arguments about fast consumption of information, some editorial projects aimed at a slow and attentive audience have managed to succeed in the middle of a huge flow of information. It seems that once the novelty of fast media has decreased, p.o.p. architecture magazines have regained the space they once had. However, are they the same kind of magazines we once knew? How can we explain the fact that an old format may stay alive against all odds? Is it stubbornness, nostalgia, or is it something else? The reasons behind this paradox are what we would like to discuss and explore in this session.
An installation of nearly 100 books in the James Stirling-designed Book Pavilion at the Venice Biennale serves as a collection of documents that asks us to consider how climate intersects with architectural ideas.
Since its first version in 2011, the Moscow Urban Forum has become an important international platform devoted to the development of megacities, and improvement of the quality of life of urban residents in the world, Moscow and Russia. Over the years, it has developed into a major international project that brings together the people who come up with ideas to improve the quality of urban space, and the people who implement these ideas: mayors, politicians, urbanists, and architects from all over the world.
The topic of the 2016 Forum is "Fast-Growing Megacities: Technologies for Dynamic Development." Why is it so important to discuss growth and development of megacities at this time? What are the rules that determine their existence?
Marc Kushner, AIA, is co-founder and CEO of Architizer and Partner of New York architecture firm HWKN (Hollwich Kushner). Benjamin Prosky is Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIANY) and the Center for Architecture. He previously served as Assistant Dean for Communications at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). In 2009, Prosky co-founded Architizer.
SCI-Arc’s “Close-up” exhibition is currently on display at the SCI-Arc gallery, featuring architectural details designed with the use of digital technology by top architects in the field. The exhibit, curated by Hernan Diaz Alonso and David Ruy, seeks to explore the impact of new computational tools not only on large-scale building analysis, but also on the “traditions of tectonic expression” associated with architectural detail.
“Out of the many critical shifts that the discipline has gone through in the last 25 years with the explosion of new technologies and digital means of production, the notion of the construction detail has been largely overlooked,” Diaz Alonso said. “This show attempts to shed light on the subject of tectonic details by employing a fluid and dynamic movement of zooming in and zooming out in the totality of the design.”

The Architecture Foundation is inviting applications to join a masterclass, which will be staged in the James Stirling-designed Florey Building at The Queen’s College, Oxford. Six studios will consider the typology of the university, through the development of a speculative design over the course of four days (Thursday September 8th-Sunday September 11th). The studio leaders will present lectures over the course of the masterclass while the Drawing Matter Foundation will stage an exhibition drawn from its holdings of 1960’s architectural drawings. On the evening of September 12th, the studios will present their projects at a public event at London’s Barbican Arts Centre.
