Tour the new U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters on the west campus of historic St. Elizabeths, featuring an 11-story office building providing nearly 1.2 million square feet of office and support space for 3,860 employees, a separate central utility plant, and two seven-story parking garages. The building, designed by Perkins + Will, Andropogon Associates, and HOK, keeps a low profile on the historic campus while scoring high on design aesthetic, user experience, and client-mandated requirements. The building is LEED(r) Gold certified.

Henk Ovink has transformed the way communities affected by continuing threats of flooding respond to change and how architects and city planners rebuilt their cities after flooding disasters. Both Henk Ovink and OMA are involved in the post-Hurricane Sandy rebuild in the United States through the ‘Rebuild by Design’ competition. In this event Reinier de Graaf (Partner at OMA) and Henk Ovink (Special Envoy for International Water Affairs for the Kingdom of the Netherlands) discuss with Ricky Burdett the challenges and approaches of rebuilding critical infrastructure in areas prone to flooding and their engagement with communities.

Explore the unique challenges faced by Brooklyn Grange, a group of urban farmers determined to run a commercially viable farm in New York City. The film Brooklyn Farmer follows the team as they set out to build the world’s largest rooftop farm within the constraints of the Big Apple.

In conjunction with the exhibition Global Citizen: The Architecture of Moshe Safdie on display at BSA Space, this portrait film celebrates the life and work of world-renowned Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie FAIA by highlighting his outstanding contribution to the field of architecture. From the Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, in Jerusalem to the masterplan for the city of Modi’in to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, this personal documentary delves into some of Safdie’s most famous design projects and explores what makes each one unique.

The Suffolk Downs Urban Design Workshop is the third in an ongoing series of Urban Design Workshops organized by the BSA Foundation. The workshops’ overall goal is to open up dialogue and stimulate thinking about the design potential of places with particularly significant and compelling opportunities.

Join us for another portrayal of one of America’s greatest architects: Richard Neutra. The Oyler House: Richard Neutra’s Desert Retreat explores how Neutra, considered the “father of California Modern architecture,” came to befriend this modest small-town family and how he was inspired by the site’s stunning desert setting, which Neutra compared with the grandness of the mystical Gobi Desert.

Author R. Andrew Bittner discusses the techniques used to build the Washington National Cathedral in his newly-released book from Arcadia Publishing (2015). Washington’s Brookland neighborhood gained a jolt of artistic energy with the renovation of Dance Place studio and construction of Brookland Artspace Lofts. Dance Place incorporates a theater, office space, and an expanded dance studio. Brookland Artspace Lofts, a 78,000-square-foot residential development, provides 40 affordable live/work studios for working artists. Yolanda Cole, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP; Holly Lennihan, RA, LEED AP; and Starr Ashcraft, LEED AP BD+C with Hickok Cole Architects lead a tour of the buildings and explains how the programmatic needs unique to artists impacted their final designs. 1.5 LU HSW

The experiment takes place within Natasha Johns-Messenger's interactive installation within El Museo de Los Sures, ThreeFold, curated by Melissa Bianca Amore.

Last October, Oris - Croatian magazine for architecture and culture of living, had a great pleasure of hosting an internationally recognised Chilean architect – Smiljan Radić. During his visit to Zagreb he delivered a lecture entitled Bestiario at the Days of Oris 15 symposium where he also received ORIS ACO Award and was present at the opening of the exhibition Ilustraciones in the Oris House of Architecture. Among lectures that were held at Days of Oris 15 were ones by Anne Lacaton, Terunobu Fujimori, Fabrizio Barozzi and other architects.
