“Belligerent Eyes | 5K Confinement” is an upcoming, pioneering project on contemporary image production. Conceived and designed by independent architect Luigi Alberto Cippini and developed in collaboration with film director Giovanni Fantoni Modena, “Belligerent Eyes” sets itself as an experimental media research facility geared in the spaces of Fondazione Prada’s Venetian venue, Ca’ Corner della Regina.

Do you want to observe directly how leading professionals use materials, technology, visual communication and storytelling to design memorable user experiences through the immersive built environment? This course will cover the areas of residential, retail and workspace design and provide methods to apply for interior projects in a variety of contexts. Center for Architecture is proud to present the return of Guess-A-Sketch, a lively evening where architects, architecture enthusiasts, and young professionals gather for an architecture-themed, pictionary-style tournament. Charles Renfro, AIA will host the evening as Master of Ceremonies. Honoree sketchers draw iconic buildings as battling teams guess to win. Enjoy libations and hors d’oeuvres served all night. Audience members are encouraged to play by tweeting their guesses. 

On Tuesday, January 26, Arhitext Design Foundation launched the second edition of East Centric Architecture Triennale, which will take place in Bucharest between September 15 and October 9, 2016. The theme of this year's edition is Drifting. The Triennale features three modules – Drifting Architecture (thematic projects exhibition), Critical Discourses (essay contest), and Arhitext East Centric Awards (projects contest) – and a special project named Agora Experiments (a workshop based on an international idea contest and multimedia exhibition).

The first i2a Biennale will focus on the important territorial transformations currently underway in Switzerland, with more than 20 invited experts from various disciplines participating in a series of encounters and debates. The 3-day event aims to stimulate a dialogue between insiders and citizens, in order to place the transformations of the Swiss territory within a historical, social and political context.

Join the Mattapan Cultural Arts Development (MCAD), Powerful Pathways Consulting, and the BSA Foundation for an interactive community conversation on arts, design, and placemaking. Through presentations, breakout discussions, and a mini-charrette, attendees will explore how design thinking can be applied in making inclusive communities and demonstrate how one of MCAD’s current projects engages the neighborhood in creative civic activity and advocacy.

The BSA Foundation Grant Project Pin-Up returns this year with a new opportunity to explore some of the projects that the BSA Foundation has brought to life in communities around Greater Boston. The BSA Foundation was created by the Boston Society of Architects/AIA to enhance public awareness of the built environment and the processes that shape it. The BSA Foundation Grant Project Pin-Up will connect BSA members with educators, artists and other BSA Foundation grant recipients to discuss recent successes and future options.

To celebrate the upcoming Extraordinary Playscapes exhibition in June, BSA Space is teaming up with co-curator Design Museum Boston for an event exploring how to make the urban environment more accessible to play. As part of the ongoing series Design Museum Mornings, this session will feature Maggie Cooper, City Initiatives manager at KaBOOM!, a nonprofit focused on bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children. Join Cooper for a candid conversation as she shares how to bring communities together through initiatives like group playground builds and playability walks, especially for children growing up in poverty. As part of the Cambridge Science Festival, discover the art and science of architecture and city planning. Find out what Boston might look like in 2030, and imagine new modes of transportation and vibrant places for “live, work, and play”! Explore how architects and urban planners apply notions of sustainability, transportation, housing, parks, and open space in their work, and share your thoughts on how to make the city more beautiful, resilient, and equitable. Lastly, bring your own fantastic ideas to life using LEGO® bricks, and present them to your design buddies.

KidsBuild! will be held at BSA Space on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday April 10. Guided by professional architects, families will choose a construction site from a fictional city grid, design and build a building, and be awarded a certificate of occupancy from the city building inspectors.

Iñaki Ábalos, chair of the department of architecture at Harvard University, is a founding member of Ábalos + Sentkiewicz, an accomplished architecture practice with offices in Madrid, Boston, and Shanghai. Ábalos will discuss issues of architecture and the environment in his recent award-winning work.

In the documentary Jens Jensen The Living Green, filmmaker Carey Lundin explores the innovative ideas of Jens Jensen to make the modern city livable for all. Jensen was a pioneering conservationist, creator of the Prairie Style in landscape architecture, and considered “dean of landscape architects.” Following the screening, Lundin discusses Jensen's activism and relevance today. 1.5 LU (AIA) / 1.5 CM (AICP) / 1.5 PDH (ASLA)

Built by Women D.C. (BxW DC) is a crowd-sourced competition organized by the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF) to recognize and support the diverse women working in design and construction. This weekend, view the winners that are on display in the Great Hall. On Saturday, attend tours of projects selected as outstanding that will be included in the BWAF’s BxW archive.
