The Society of Architectural Historians is accepting nominations for its 2017 Publication Awards. The program includes five awards that will be presented at the Society's 2017 Annual International Conference (Glasgow, June 7-11). The deadline to submit is Monday, August 1, 2016.
The biggest sporting showdown of the world, Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016, will commence in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from August 5. Around 10,000 participants from 204 nations are expected to descend in Brazil, unleashing fierce competition and rivalries.
It is going to be a make or break event for the city of Rio de Janeiro, which has got the privilege of being the first South American city ever to host the Olympics games. It is estimated that around half a million fans and supporters are expected to grace the event in Rio, making it hard for the city officials to control the proceedings.

Olson Kundig Creative Exchange Residency – an invitation to collaborate and impact our collective practices by developing ideas together which we wouldn’t arrive at independently.
This is a residency within the offices of Olson Kundig, a 150 person design firm based in Seattle, Washington, USA. With a fifty year history of collaboration, our primary focus has been on architecture, interiors, exhibit work, product design, and landscape design. We consider ourselves generalists and invite challenges. Past collaborators have included artists, choreographers, writers, chefs, scientists, fashion designers, and horticulturists.
Re-thinking The Future (RTF) was born from the idea of creating a new window on international trends in architecture and design that looks on to radical solutions for the present day problems facing the domain. RTF is a hub of services for architecture and design. RTF is working to develop an architectural language that would ‘sustain’ and ‘survive’ the impacts of new age challenges, and evolve into an architectural language of the future - taking sustainability one step ahead. This year RTF is presenting ‘RTF Sustainability Awards 2016’ to give voice to architects, designers, planners and students from all over the world and discovering a new talent.

But its fruitful potentials are only equal to its destructive dangers. 1 Overview
This open international competition is to take place among three groups who have been solicited to draw up refurbishment plans of 12 courtyards. Finalists whose plans comply with the design guidelines and have construction feasibility will be authorized by the organizers to implement the project, and the plans will be made available for reference in the Baitasi district, the broader old-town districts of Beijing, and in old towns throughout China that need to be revitalized.
The mission of the American Architecture Prize is to advance the appreciation of quality architectural design worldwide. Moscow's Strelka Institute has launched a series scholarships that will cover expenses for its first joint master’s programme with the HSE Graduate School of Urbanism, called ‘Advanced Urban Design’. Three scholarships will be granted to remarkable emerging leaders in the spheres of urban design and research to fully pursue a two-year study.

What else would you change or improve? The Bernard van Leer Foundation will invest in promising small projects that benefit young children in cities from the prenatal period up to the age of five. Applications are open to all organisations and individuals, from any country.
In the natural world, adaptation is a competitive advantage. Yet the built environment is frequently characterized by rigid typologies and inflexible designs. How can buildings keep pace with changing cultures and contexts? In “Adaptation,” the 2016 James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture call for research proposals, early-career architects are challenged to explore how flexibility and adaptive response might be better incorporated into the design process. The winning research proposal will receive $50,000 to support up to a year of international travel and research.
The DANIEL GÖSSLER AWARD for an outstanding work of architectural theory will be conferred for the third time in 2016. All theoretical works that address relevant issues in current architecture and urban planning debates are eligible. The works should make a serious contribution to the current discourse and should refer to the socio-political context. Entries must have been published since 2011 and may not have previously been submitted for the DANIEL GÖSSLER AWARD. Works concerned primarily with architectural history are not eligible. Non-German entries must be submitted in German or English translation.

The City of Kansas is sponsoring a design competition to bring in new ideas, energy, and visions to the development of Twin Creeks, a 15,000 acre predominantly rural area in the Northland of Kansas City that is projected to house up to 75,000 people over the next 20+ years.
The Architecture at Zero 2016 competition challenge is to create a zero net energy (ZNE) student housing project on the San Francisco State University campus. The competition has two components. First, entrants will create an overall site plan to accommodate the 784 housing units, student services, dining center, childcare facility, and parking. Second, entrants will design one building, in detail, to indicate ZNE performance.
