Design Competition and Intervention at Viña Lanciano - Concéntrico 04

Concéntrico 04, the International Architecture and Design Festival in Logroño, arose with the intention of prompting reflection on the city through proposals in architecture and design. The latest edition will be held from 27 April to 1 May 2018.

This competition proposes the creation of a temporary architectural intervention at Viña Lanciano at Bodegas LAN. This intervention will form part of other installations and the pavilion, all of which will be set up in different locations throughout the city’s historic downtown.

The convocation encompasses both the design of the intervention and its subsequent construction and disassembly by the winning team.

The Festival is organized by the Cultural Foundation of Architects of La Rioja (Fundación Cultural de los Arquitectos de La Rioja, FCAR), together with Javier Peña Ibáñez, the promoter of the initiative, in collaboration with the Logroño City Council, Garnica and the Government of La Rioja’s Comprehensive Design Centre. It enjoys the support of the La Rioja Superior School of Design, Bodegas LAN, the Goethe Institut and the Institut français.

Framework of the convocation:

Concéntrico is Logroño’s International Architecture and Design Festival and it is open to all citizens and visitors. It aims to discover and rediscover spaces of interest in the city’s historic downtown. The Festival invites attendees to visit these places through installations that create a connection between interior patios, hidden spaces, and plazas that typically go unnoticed in day-to-day life.

Each installation is created by a team of architects and/or designers who make proposals, experiment and explore new fields of design with their environment, thereby establishing a dialogue between heritage and contemporary architecture, which seeks to activate citizens’ reflection on these spaces. The Festival’s locations include Revellín Plaza, Plaza de Santa Ana, the Calado de San Gregorio and the Plaza de Escuelas Trevijano.

Location: Viña Lanciano, Bodegas LAN

Viña Lanciano in part of Bodegas LAN, in the El Cortijo neighborhood of Lorgroño, against the backdrop of the Sierra de Cantabria and surrounded by the bend of the Ebro River and the remains of the Mantible Bridge. Its 72 hectares are configured into various paths and parcels, which proceed into the central path, in a band of territory constrained by a plot of vineyards and the road.

Founded in the 70s in the heart of La Rioja Alta, Bodegas LAN’s name comes from the initials of the three provinces of La Rioja (Logroño, Álava and Navarra). It is noteworthy for its commitment to consistency and its innovative nature. LAN has the privilege of working with exceptional raw material from its Viña Lanciano finca.

The period for presentation of proposals will conclude on 27 December 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
