Symposium: "Modernism" / Dallas Architecture Forum

Leo Marmol is one of the world’s leading authorities in the restoration of iconic Mid-Century Modern and International style residences, including the Kaufmann House by Richard Neutra in Palm Springs, considered one of the most important residences of the 20th Century. His firm also incorporates those timeless concepts into new architecture, including product design exemplifying these design elements. Marmol will overview his firm’s landmark restoration projects, and discuss how the firm integrates Mid-Century design elements into their new construction and pre-fab projects, producing award-winning residences.

Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern Architecture Overview by Sidney Williams, Curator; Palm Springs Art Museum

Sidney Williams is a leading authority on the architecture and design in Palm Springs, as well as the stars who have made it famous. Daughter-in-law of esteemed architect E. Stewart Williams, who designed the famed Twin Palms residence for Frank Sinatra, she will give attendees insights into modern architecture, design and life in Palm Springs.

Panel Discussion on Mid-Century Modern Design

Following the presentations there will be a Panel Discussion to learn about the current popularity of Mid-Century Modern interior design, featured in movies and television shows such as Mad Men, as well as in many vanguard showrooms and design projects. Attendees will also be able to ask questions of the presenters at the conclusion of the Panel.

Patron Wine Reception

After the conclusion of the Symposium there will be a Patron wine reception at a private residence originally designed by Howard Meyer, with renovations by Bodron + Fruit. This residence is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of International Modernist design in Texas, and will be a perfect ending to an educational and enjoyable afternoon.

Admission for the Symposium is $35 for Forum and Nasher members, $45 general public.

Admission for the Symposium and the Cocktail Reception at a private residence following the symposium is $85 for Forum and Nasher members, and $95 general admission.
