Brusselssprout’s design “Mosque is More” was selected as finalist for the Mosque Category for Design as Reform Competition in Dubai. You can see more images, a video and architect’s description after the break.

MOSQUE IS MORE. Islam (building) reflects the stark simplicity of the Arabian desert where it was born. According to the teachings of Islam, a simple life (building) is one, which is free from all sorts of items of mere show and formality. A Muslim (building) is not expected to spend his wealth to exhibit grandeur and riches. It is however to be noted that the standard of simplicity varies from each person according to individual status, vocation etc. and as such one common standard cannot be fixed for the whole society. The main object of leading a simple life (building) is not to spend on items of mere external show.

Faith (light) should be the protagonist.

“Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light.” Charles Édouard Jeanneret-Gris
