Text description provided by the architects. The location of the winery is a response to different factors. On one hand, it needed to be near the vineyards and the two existing constructions. On the other, the design had to take into account the harnessing of gravity for the winemaking process. And lastly, the intention must be emphasised of searching out for the winery the best natural conditions of the terrain.

Section 1

The winery is broken up into three semi-buried interconnected bodies that extend in a graded manner over a north-facing slope. The orientation of this slope and the landscaping of the roofs protect the interior of the winery from excessive sunlight, while the slope of the terrain facilitates the positioning of each one of the spaces in the programme.

The upper body houses the grape reception space and contains the winemaking cellar. The highest level of the slope was sought out to establish the working platform that takes in the grapes and through gravity fills the tanks of this cellar, situated around four metres below the natural entrance level.

The intermediate body corresponds to the storage and bottling cellar. It features working walkways above tanks situated another four metres further down. The unevenness allows the juice to travel through gravity from the first tanks to those in this cellar. This is followed by the cask cellar situated another metre further down, where it enjoys suitable humidity and temperature conditions.

Finally, the lower body has a single height and contains the dry materials and bottle stores, the office space and the reception hall. From reception, a narrow corridor leads to the tasting room fitted out next to the casks.

The suite is conceived as a series of concrete walls that, besides defining the access ramps, configure terraces integrated into the slope. The splitting of the north walls minimises the exterior impact of the real dimension of the two cellars, permits creating ample spaces in the entrances to the bays and gives the access paving a continuity with the landscaped roof of the bay situated below it.

The walls of the winery are in reinforced concrete, the forgings of the roofs are made from alveolar panels and the paving is in polished concrete.
