reSITE 2013: Collaborative Ideas For More Livable Cities, Workshop Results

One of the most important parts of the second annual reSITE festival, which is aimed to change the city to a place suitable for life, was an international multidisciplinary workshop with students from all over the world.

The workshop, co-organized by a ARCHIP - Architectural Institute in Prague, was held from June 21st to 23rd. It was tutored by renowned expert Cecil Balmond from Balmond Studio. The workshop participants were selected by an international jury from a number of people from various fields - architects, designers, cultural managers, programmers, designers and representatives of other specializations, to create multidisciplinary teams. These teams of researches colaborated for three days on a design concept of the future mobile pavilion, which will become a distinguishing feature of the festival in the upcoming years.

Participants
Competition workshop was attended by 18 young professionals and students from 9 countries. They were mixed in four interdisciplinary teams by specialization (13 architects, 3 construction engineers, 1 designer, 1 artist), work experience and cultural background. On the request of the Balmond Studio, there has been assigned a programmer to each team, translating conceptual ideas into computer scripts. Outputs, such as working and presentation models, were laser-cut via file-to-factory method.

Pavilion for 2014
The winner was selected by an independent international jury members: Maria Aiolova (architect, Terreform One, New York), Osamu Okamura (reSITE program director, Prague), David Černý (artist, Prague), David Chisholm (architect, CMC Architects, Prague) and Adam Gebrian (architecture critic, Prague). The winning design allows for maximal flexibility and openness for interaction with public space. At the same time brings the most distinctive, iconic design. Its main advantage is its mobility and biodegradable structure of the pavilion. On the basis of this design concept funds for design finalization and construction will be raised in the following year.
