26LAB: A life enrichment program and learning lab

26LAB, NFP is a new not-for-profit founded in the city Chicago, a life enrichment program and sustainable learning lab using architecture, engineering and construction education. While they complete the renovations of the lab, they are hosting a “26LAB iit pilot” program for high school students, in partnership with IIT Idea Shop on the famed campus designed by Mies Van der Rohe, and now with a building by Koolhaas.

Also, 26LAB is hosting a Pre-Opening Fundraiser event on Friday March 11th, at 7pm. More information after the break.

Upon opening doors, 26LAB’s first few programs are a teens session looking to study the history and current conditions of part of the city. Another session is “girls in AEC” for young women interested in a profession in building design and construction related fields; they look to work on leadership, communication, team work, presence, and other essential skills.

Also, they will host parents and toddlers in “building blocks” on Saturday mornings, and a furniture design and prototyping session for adults. For more information, you can follow them through Twitter and Facebook, or through their official website.
