Text description provided by the architects. Purgatório is a small appetizer bar located in the Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo. Inspired by the tapas bars of Portugal and southern Spain, its atmosphere balances a vibrant, irreverent visual style with elements reminiscent of old, traditional spaces. The elegant contours of the millwork and wooden frames coexist with the prominent red of the wall coverings, evoking both the wine consumed on the premises and the religious meaning of the name: purgatory is neither heaven nor hell, but rather "the state and process of purification or temporary punishment in which the souls of those who die in a state of grace are prepared for the Kingdom of Heaven."
