Text description provided by the architects. The only coral reef formations in the South Atlantic are distributed along approximately three thousand kilometers of the Brazilian coast, stretching from Maranhão to southern Bahia. Within this area lies Brazil's largest marine conservation unit, the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area. The municipality of Maceió, Alagoas, is the only state capital located within this stretch, making it one of the few capitals in the world whose urban shoreline is surrounded by coral reefs with highly diverse marine life.
