Introduction
Casarão 28 approaches sustainability from a less cliché perspective. The overemphasis on the color green, high-tech elements, and a disproportionate focus on operational carbon (that produced during a building's occupancy phase)—which dominate contemporary sustainable discourse—obscure the fact that, in a climate emergency, carbon emissions related to materials and the initial construction phase are more significant than those from the operational stage.
