Text description provided by the architects. Livr(e)aria = Livraria (Bookstore) + Livre (Free). The intervention aims to transform a pre-existing space (formerly a food take-away) into a bookstore, located in a square in the historic center of Ponte de Lima. The bookstore concept is highly unique: a sort of community library consisting of secondhand books—an open, free literary space, unlike other nearby shops (bakery, pharmacy, etc.) where payment is required. It is a meeting place to promote literature and art through public readings, workshops, and lectures—a community hub for receiving books, objects, and art.
