Text description provided by the architects. The Casa da Carnaúba in Várzea Queimada is a facility designed in partnership with Marcilene Barbosa, leader of the Várzea Queimada Association of Women Artisans. The building supports the sustainable extraction of carnauba powder—a raw material used in the cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries—for sale under a Fair Trade socioeconomic model, directly to processing companies without intermediaries. It also serves as a space for processing, drying, and storing the palm straw used in local crafts.
