“The Prelude”
While people witness the development of cities, architecture preserves their past. How to both adapt older buildings for new functions and preserve their original character is a balance and progress that designers continuously strive to achieve. The Shiliu Caizhi Center was originally a state-owned enterprise under the Nanjing Grain Bureau. Due to the municipal government's redevelopment along the Qinhuai River and the construction of river gates that prohibited navigation, the oil depot could no longer function as originally intended. The Grain Bureau collaborated with Jiangsu Stone City Cultural Industry Development Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Urban Architecture Design & Consulting Co., Ltd. to develop and design the Stone City No. 6 project, aiming to transform it into a high-quality cultural industry park.
