Campinas has revised its environmental plans, formalizing nature-based solutions (NBS) as a central component of the municipality's environmental policies, actions, and goals. Enacted by municipal decree, this revision strengthens the city's commitment to climate adaptation, resilience, and a long-term vision, while prioritizing sustainable, equitable, and inclusive urban development.
NBS were integrated across the comprehensive revision of three plans: the Municipal Green Plan, the Municipal Water Resources Plan, and the Municipal Environmental Education Plan. Embedding these solutions into public policy helps ensure that actions are implemented regardless of political cycles, while also building credibility for fundraising efforts. A standing institutional coordination group will be responsible for monitoring the plans' goals and indicators.
