
The concern with creating acoustically comfortable environments is not exclusive to concert halls and recording studios. Noise levels generated by various activities can be disruptive, particularly when they occur in our places of rest, potentially even becoming harmful to health.
In our everyday spaces, noise traveling between different units or floors is a constant challenge, driven by the transmission of vibrations or impact noise from various activities. In these settings, habitable spaces—such as bedrooms, dining areas, living rooms, offices, or bathrooms—coexist with utility and service areas like elevators, hallways, mechanical rooms, and laundries. The design of these mixed-use spaces can directly impact the well-being and, consequently, the habitability of their occupants. For this reason, it is essential to address these issues from the very beginning of a project, using proper acoustic insulation to mitigate the transmission of impact noise and prevent its reception in rooms other than the source. Understanding the sources of transmission is key to a better design approach.
