In October, the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) launched a free basic online course on BIM (Building Information Modeling). Divided into two modules, the Democratizando BIM course is aimed at all professionals in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors. To register, simply visit the website and fill out the form.
The training program has a workload of 8 hours. The first module, titled "Basic BIM Concepts," covers topics such as historical context, fundamentals, standards, and case studies. The second module, "BIM Objects," features definitions, characteristics, classification, nomenclature, and data embedded in objects for different BIM dimensions, among other aspects of the topic.
The fully online classes will be taught by instructors Rafael Fernandes and Edvanio Teixeira, renowned professionals in the Brazilian BIM ecosystem. Upon completing each module, participants will receive a certificate of participation.

ABDI President Igor Calvet points out that this training is one of the goals of the National Strategy for BIM Dissemination (BIM BR Strategy), launched by the Federal Government in 2018. “ABDI is committed to stimulating the digital transformation of construction. We are talking about a significant leap in quality, efficiency, and sustainability for the sector. BIM means doing more in less time, with less waste and in a more optimized way,” Calvet says. The president also notes that one of the expected outcomes of the Strategy is to increase the productivity of construction companies by 10% by 2028, when BIM is fully implemented across the Brazilian ecosystem.
