Iconic buildings in Buenos Aires offer online tours

The Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, in collaboration with the Tourism Board, invites the public to explore local architecture and culture through “Turismo Cultural BA”. This virtual series, stemming from the Cultura en Casa initiative, offers weekly online tours of some of the most iconic buildings in Buenos Aires, showcasing art exhibitions and spaces associated with the city's history and culture. This virtual format allows people worldwide to access Buenos Aires' architectural and cultural heritage from home, in compliance with the isolation measures implemented by the country to combat COVID-19.

The tours are free and will take place on Saturdays starting in August. Visitors can explore the exhibitions and displays of key museums, cultural centers, and theaters, as well as their interiors. In some cases, experts will narrate their history and delve into the details that make each building unique.

The series launched on Saturday, August 8, with an immersive tour of the iconic Teatro Colón led by museologist Guadalupe Ramirez Oliberos. Starting at the main entrance on Libertad Street, the tour visited the theater's various halls, highlighting their design details, before concluding in the main auditorium—widely considered one of the best in the world for its acoustics for opera and lyric performances. Once completed, the tours will remain archived and available to watch at any time.

Featured buildings in the series include the Teatro San Martín, designed by Mario Roberto Álvarez and Macedonio Ruiz; the Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum, whose collection spans two periods of Spanish-American and Argentine historical and creative development; the Cornelio de Saavedra Historical Museum, which features ten rooms of permanent exhibitions exploring Argentine history, politics, economics, and society; the Museo del Cine (Cinema Museum), dedicated to preserving, researching, and promoting Argentina's audiovisual heritage; and Teatro Timbre 4, among others.

The spaces can be visited virtually through the City Tourism Board's website and social media channels, as well as on the Cultura en Casa platform. Find more details at the following link.
