The student collective Post_Arq from the Leopoldo Rother Architecture Museum at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia has shared this interview with Leonardo Álvarez Yepes. This is part of a series featuring seven Colombian architects, including leading figures such as Sebastían Serna, Santiago Pradilla, Lorenzo Castro, and Fernando de la Carrera, among others, whose interviews will be released on their channel.
Description provided by the collective. On this occasion, architect Leonardo Álvarez Yepes opened the doors not only to his office but also to his home. This opportunity allowed us to recognize the references and inspirations that transcend his workspace and accompany him in his daily life. The architect is best known for institutional projects such as the Porfirio Barba Jacob District School or the School of Nursing at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, an institution from which he graduated and where he also teaches.
The meeting was marked by Leonardo’s commitment and enthusiasm in recounting the origin and development of his projects, emphasizing theoretical concerns “that go beyond the brief” through a reflection on form, place, and activity. These strategies, addressed in this interview alongside lessons that extend beyond architecture, made for a fruitful conversation on the practice and ethics of the profession.
