Applications are now open for the 6th Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Prize. The initiative continues to map contemporary architectural production by highlighting, for the sixth consecutive year, significant projects built in the current Brazilian landscape that demonstrate a commitment to their site and sustainability, as well as design and constructive inventiveness.
The 6th Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Prize introduces the STUDENTS category, exclusively for architecture students to submit unbuilt projects. In this edition, under the theme “Revitalization, Requalification, Renewal,” undergraduate students currently enrolled in higher education architecture programs recognized or authorized by the MEC, who are Brazilian or foreign nationals residing in the country for at least two years, can participate. Up to three projects will be selected to be featured in an exhibition at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake in 2019, as well as being published in the prize catalog. One student among those selected will be awarded an internship at an architecture firm.
As in previous years, the PROFESSIONALS category is open to architecture firms, collectives, and Brazilian or foreign architects residing in the country for at least two years prior to the registration date. Up to ten projects will be selected to be featured in the exhibition at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake in 2019 and published in the prize catalog. Three of the selected projects will win international trips to destinations of architectural interest.
“Innovation and sustainability are strategic pillars for AkzoNobel, which has a passion for paint as a guiding principle of its business. Partnering with the Instituto Tomie Ohtake for this sixth edition reinforces the path the company has traveled and further consolidates our commitment to the sustainable development of Brazilian cities and communities,” says Daniel Geiger Campos, President of AkzoNobel South America.
The jury for the 6th Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Prize brings together architects Helena Aparecida Ayoub Silva, Héctor Vigliecca, Joice Berth, Pedro Vada, and Priscyla Gomes.
Registration (free of charge) has been extended until May 30, 2019, and can be completed through the website premioarquitetura.institutotomieohtake.org.br, where full information about the prize is available.

About the Prize
The Prize seeks to recognize outstanding architectural work in the contemporary Brazilian scene, valuing innovative ways of thinking about and constructing social space, thereby contributing to shaping the current landscape of national architecture in its most varied contexts. The finalist projects will be featured in an exhibition at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake headquarters, recorded in a catalog, and the winners, to be announced at the exhibition opening, will receive international travel and an internship at an architecture firm. Starting with the sixth edition, the student category has been introduced.
