Registration is now open for the 27th World Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA), the world's largest architecture event, which will be held for the first time in Brazil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in 2020.
Under the theme “All worlds. Just one world. Architecture 21,” the gathering will bring together around 15,000 architects to discuss the urban reality of the contemporary world. The event will take place in Rio, with the main venue being the Arena Todos os Mundos, at Marina da Glória, with a capacity for 7,500 people. This will also host the World Fair.
The core venues also include the Museum of Modern Art and Flamengo Park, as well as other historic sites in Rio de Janeiro, such as the Capanema Palace, the Porto Maravilha warehouses, Santiago Calatrava's Museum of Tomorrow, Praça XV, the National Historical Museum, and the Paço Imperial, among others.
Thematic Tracks
The four defined thematic tracks aim to reflect cultural, economic, and architectural diversity, and will guide the program's debates and lectures. They are: Diversity and Mixture; Change and Emergency; Vulnerabilities and Inequalities; and Transience and Flows. The UIA2020RIO Scientific Committee is composed of architects Nivaldo de Andrade, Bete França, Margareth Pereira, Ruth Verde Zein, Thiago de Andrade, Zeca Brandão, and Vinícius Andrade.
