After winning the 12th Competition for Architecture Students of the Brazilian Steel Construction Center (CBCA), students Bruna Barbosa and Lino Mendonça, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), took first place in the 12th Alacero Competition for Architecture Students, organized by the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero).
Advised by Professor Verner Max, the students were tasked with representing Brazil in the international competition after winning first place in the national stage, which challenged participants to design an Idea and Innovation Factory. The winners were announced this week during the Alacero 60 Congress in Buenos Aires.

According to the jury, "the project stood out for its integration into the main axis of potiguar urbanization, fulfillment of the program, and appropriate application of the steel structural system and its constructive subsystems, as well as a good dialogue with the surroundings, emphasizing the integration between indoor and outdoor spaces."

Second place went to the team from the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University in the Dominican Republic, and third place to students from the Central University of Chile. The competition also awarded an honorable mention to a Mexican team. Teams from Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador also participated.

Since 2008, CBCA and Alacero have partnered to organize the Competition for Architecture Students, with CBCA responsible for running the national stage, which in 2019 brought together 154 teams from 82 universities, representing 22 Brazilian states.
