Tec de Monterrey, in collaboration with the Architectural Association (AA), is launching a new certificate program titled Metropolitan Landscapes / Escenarios Metropolitanos. This program combines Tec's commitment to urban development with the AA's experimental tradition, addressing the emergence of a metropolitan discipline worldwide.
Based in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey) and the United Kingdom (London), the program explores the visionary role that design can play within the so-called "urban age" and "Anthropocene epoch," given the scale of global urbanization processes. To do so, it utilizes the latest urban, critical, technological, ecological, and landscape concepts to shape the discipline.
Skills to develop
- Understand the potential of the metropolitan discipline to direct the design, governance, and management of large urban agglomerations involved in complex urbanization processes.
- Incorporate emerging technologies to address the primary challenges of metropolises: technologies in cartographic practices (drone surveys, interactive GIS mapping) and simulation of metropolitan dynamics (simulations of landforms and urban flows).
- Meet and engage with practicing professionals and academics in Mexico and the United Kingdom who participate in the development of the discipline.
- Travel to London for two weeks to attend urbanism workshops, participate in meetings with local authorities, and visit sites of interest. (*Optional trip)
- Tackle the contemporary challenges of today's world, such as climate change, urban migration, new technologies, urban sprawl, governance, metropolitan coordination, among others.
- Analyze how to integrate ecology and landscape models, concepts, and practices with the latest trends in planning, governance, and management.
Objective
To strengthen your knowledge and professional leadership in the urban field through tools, innovative methodologies, and critical thinking, contributing to the development of metropolitan planning across various disciplines while highlighting the power of design.
Benefits
- Learn the most relevant theoretical concepts and methods related to urbanization processes and the metropolitan discipline.
- Engage in dialogue and learn from the experience of national and international experts and academics participating in the development of the discipline.
- The opportunity to travel to London for two weeks to attend workshops at the AA, participate in meetings with local authorities, and visit sites of interest.
- You will be prepared to tackle the contemporary challenges of today's world: climate change, urban migration, new technologies, urban sprawl, governance, metropolitan coordination, among others.
- You will receive a diploma issued by Tec de Monterrey and the Architectural Association, institutions of great international prestige.
Target Audience
Graduates or final-year students of architecture, urban design, planning, public policy, geography, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and related fields.
