The 'Vivienda para Rosario' (Housing for Rosario) project by Rojkind Arquitectos + Dosa Studio arose in response to the events of 19S, when an earthquake with its epicenter in Morelos shook different areas of the country. In response, various organizations such as Reconstruir México, Pienza Sostenible, and Échale a tu Casa stepped in to support affected families by proposing long-term sustainable solutions. Guided by the premise that demolishing to rebuild from scratch was not the solution, efforts focused on promoting the reuse of existing materials and structures to facilitate diagnostic assessments and prevent future disasters.
Ocuilán, Morelos, was one of the areas most damaged by 19S and subsequent earthquakes, making urgent interventions necessary. A call was put out to fifty architects who arrived in brigades, each assigned to a family to work closely on their specific needs.

The Hernández family home in Ocuilán, State of México, is organized around outdoor pathways that connect the different areas: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and dining room. These pathways play a key role, shaping the experience of moving through an open space filled with potted plants and lush vegetation.
Resignification
We believe in the deep significance of the sense of ownership and identity that the Hernández family holds for their home. Our design evokes discovery through movement, with multiple pathways leading to unexpected moments, a fluid indoor-outdoor relationship, and a group of elements (or cells?) that form a cohesive whole.

We propose a series of semi-staggered cubes embedded into the site's topography, connected by outdoor pathways and revealed as one walks through them. Each element establishes its own identity through varying heights; no single volume takes center stage. Instead, each contributes with its own uniqueness.
The volumes connect with one another through openings that converge onto a secluded central courtyard, allowing each component to be seen from any vantage point within the complex. There is a constant, direct indoor-outdoor-indoor relationship. Nature acts as the main protagonist, highlighted by the contrast between the materiality of the structure and the vibrant green, yellow, and purple hues of the bougainvillea.

We view symbiosis as a collective process between the Hernández family and our proposal, which is rooted in a study of identity and ownership. We treat the site and its current use as pre-existing conditions; our approach is shaped through a dialogue based on a rigorous analysis of the different variables.
