Text description provided by the architects. Asunción, the capital of the Republic of Paraguay, has a population of 525,000 (7.5% of the country's total). However, its metropolitan area is home to 2,130,000 people (30% of the population). The basic services necessary for a decent quality of life—such as healthcare, education, government institutions, and cultural activities—are centralized in the capital. This means only 37% of the national population has ready access to these essential services.
