Text description provided by the architects. La Elita is a single-family housing project located in a rural area near the city of Pereira on the road that connects with Armenia, at an altitude of 1411 meters above sea level. The project can be summarized in the question of the possibilities that architecture has to invent a new ground on a "non-existent" lot. We refer to a residual property with a small trapezoidal plateau that falls abruptly.
For the implantation, we resort to the strategy of the tightrope walker: to perch on the edge, reserving behind him the space of entry, circulations and gardens that watch over the accesses and the relationship with the neighborhood; in the front, open up to explore the close and distant views towards the landscape from three cantilever platforms, each in a unique dialogue with a distant view that blends the mountain with the city. Below, the topography allows for encounters with spaces at different levels that are connected by a path that leads to a river and a guadua forest that lives in the Valley.
In the relationship between a structure that is levitating and a broken geography, there are several episodes in which the reverse side of the ground constitutes a fifth facade where pillars, anchors and retainers are highlighted. That skeletal nature of the house is reinforced by this new collaboration we make with @esmon_estructuras, a manufacturing company of metal structures for bridges and infrastructures, which finds in this project an opportunity to venture into the field of housing. The mixture between their experience in standardized and factory construction methods, together with our recurring interest in making the structure the imprint of the experience in space, results in a serrated piece, which is organized into 3 volumes, two at the ends with bedrooms on the second floor and a central double-height one that connects the social areas with the entry and circulations.
