The building is located on the top of the “plateau” to the north of Rueda, with a height of 4.35 m. Underground and occupying about half of the building floor plan, a basement is built for the production of grapes of 7m height.
In a rectangular cellar of 103 X 12mts and 1.930m2 built, of which 1,100 m2 are destined for white wine making, bottling, reception and auxiliary spaces. Another 445m2 are destined for offices, social areas, tasting room and shops, and 385m2 are designated for facilities and covered outdoor porches and pergolas. This cellar is partially buried so to avoid excessive heights and to improve the overall thermal inertia. This type of building, located on a slope, helps minimize the breaking or crushing of the grapes and allows the reception of them work by gravity, as is desirable in a production of quality wines.
The modification of the topography makes the building has few areas constructed, thus reducing the impact on the vineyard and in the horizon, without sacrificing its identity and social recognition.
The whole building is constructed in concrete and glass, to which we add a central volume compact of tile brick for housing the tasting room and internal service areas. These materials, by their nature, require no maintenance, are durable and get better with age.
This huge project of simplicity respects basic bioclimatic principles (orientation, solar protection, with adjustable slats of concrete, underground and cross ventilation, rainwater recovery, …) and is austere in their consumption and performance.
The exterior urbanization, with slopes and terraces formation with wood taken from the vineyard along with native plants, will form a discreet landscape, organized and consistent with its surroundings. A wood-based interior of American oak and white plywoods solves the tasting table, offices, exhibition halls, dining rooms or sales room.
