Inhabitable Slot / Dimos Moysiadis + Ioannis Oikonomou + Xaris Tsitsikas

By — Filed under: Architecture News ,Residential , , , ,

+ Ioannis Oikonomou+ Xaris Tsitsikas, young Greek architects, have designed a conceptual house where a canal brings the ocean water both next to and underneath the house.  Residents can enjoy a dive off the veranda into their natural swimming pool, or an artificial sandy beach just a few steps down from their front door of the house. The eastern concrete side of this canal stands as a strong edge against the property line, as an attempt to “create a “safe” border between our environment and the other properties.”  With the long side of the villa  parallel to the north coast, and vertically to the canal, the home creates a sense of enclosure around the landscape.

I have no idea what the design is, the images are way too small? Why???

It seems the “bahama-bafana-competition” has returned to the scene again… (the siteplan reveals what this project is about). Who does not remember this strange architectural competition which ended in total chaos?

Its illegal in Greece to build any structure 50 meters from the sea, often more. No structure whatsoever allowed on the beach.

Still, even though the project looks very nice, I would like to stress out that the site has been part of the infamous Bahamas Design Challenge (2009). It seems a lot of work has been lost in this competition which lasted into a disturbing first prize winner (http://www.bustler.net/index.php/article/trouble_with_paradise_bahamas_design_challenge_winners_announced/).
It seems that small offices are obliged to put their work to the test on ArchDaily, which is a good thing except: it’s not the purpose of this recommended website.
My proposal would be to gather all the input from the BHC2009 into one website. My recommendation to Archdaily: put up a corner in your website to show challenged projects so that others can learn from it.
To X-T from Greece: congrats! Great concept, nice pics, good luck!

As Gorgos said, such plans are illegal in Greece. May be nice from an architectural perspective but Greece is full of these. No more please.
