The INSIDE World Festival of Interiors has announced the nominations for their Interior of the Year award for 2014. This award is an international honor that covers nine categories. This year’s 60 nominations span the architectural spectrum, from schools to airports, and include well-known firms, such as MAKE Architects and a21 Studio.
The nominees will compete against each other from October 1st to the 3rd at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore (see this year's architecture shortlist here). More on the interior nominees, after the break.
Paul Finch, the Festival’s Program Director stated that “the submissions cover an excellent geographical range, with entries from most continents, reflecting the very different expectations of clients and design approaches around the world. We launched INSIDE in 2011 and this year looks like being the best event so far.”
One of the unifying qualities of this year’s nominations was the concept of “re-use and redesign.” Many of the recognized projects are not entirely new constructions, but innovative renovations to existing buildings where space and resources are limited. The redesign of Christopher’s Restaurant in London, and Neri&Hu’s Camper Showroom house are just two of the many nominees that bend tight spaces to their will.
