New images released for 9/11 museum
As New York and the rest of the world reflect over events on this day 8 years ago, fresh images have been released showing the designs for the National September 11 Memorial Museum. Steven Davis, Partner at Davis Brody Bond Aedas attended a ceremony yesterday at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site to brief media on the updated designs.
The 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, at 20 Vesey Street in Manhattan was opened to the public on 24 August where renderings and models of the museum are on display. The museum is situated within the 8 acre landscaped Memorial Plaza, bracketing the memorial pools set in the footprints of the pre-existing twin towers. The new images show the interior of the three-levelled museum where visitors will be able to witness remaining elements of the twin towers.

enough with the cool imagery, let build something! the victims’ family and friends have waited long enough…
Looks kind of weak.
I don’t mean to be harsh but I don’t think this is a good project, seems more like a political excuse more than a true thought out thorough project…. I’m sure they think it is great but I differ. If I had any say, I would’ve rebuilt almost immediately back then. IMHO.
I sent you an email and said shame on you. You have no consciencel. Wait until God kills your loved ones and see how you feel and repent. You are cold and evil.
Undergound spaces are dark and nasty most of the time.
I can’t really tell from the renderings, but is there suppose to be glass behind the waterfalls that let light into the subgrade memorial space?
No mention of Snøhetta who designed the Museum and Memorial visitors center which functions as the entrance for the museum?

After seeing these disappointing images this morning, I’m thinking about Andrew Bernheimer’s letter defending the state of New York Architecture culture against Nicolai Ouroussoff’s critique last month.
poor…but when in rome,,
It looks like a big subway station!!
My problem I suppose is that the scars of 9/11 are still very visible in terms of the reflection pools. by sinking instead of rising it’s perhaps the wrong metaphor to choose.
Having said that the whole process has been nothing but painful for all involved, so it’s little surprise the end result will be a compromised mess in which no one ends up happy.
The design and political challenges are considerable. As this thread illustrates, unreflective opinion abounds. I applaud anyone who can stick out the political process to realize this important memorial in such an atmosphere.
Yes, the design is largely dictated by the remains of the towers. If the design isn’t scintillating it is, at least, respectful. What else can it really aspire to be? What does this need to say as architecture that the remains of the towers themselves don’t already say?

have to agree with the above response by mr. Phipps.
im starting to get suspiciuos about all this; think about it, it´s been 8 years since the attack, and they haven´t buildt nothing up to story 0. rare isn´t it? We all know the conspiracy theories about a self-atack and cover -up. as far as i know they had the ground zero completely clean just a few months before the atack. so, what have been they doing all this years… maybe i´ve seen too many documentaries lately……….
………..maybe not,
They had ground zero clear a couple months BEFORE the attack? yeah that is rare.
sorry, AFTER, im not english native, you get the
point don´t you?
i hear the building is further delayed because of the bad real estate market currently going on…
Sad…Maya Lin or Liebskind should have designed this memorial.
So much hatred, so much destruction, so much sadness…yet so little action to memorialize & rebuild with honor & respect.
Sad indeed.
looks claustrophobic and scary. I’m not a fan.
It’s like a big snake looking around the corner, or is it the smoke rushing at you in between the buildings of manhattan? Is it anything symbolic, that brown thing?
kind of unimaginative, the museum seems a lil to “crypt” like, gives of a silent, mourning forever feel, which may be suitable, but other routes could of been used, like OK city bombing, with the quiet reflection-esque area….
and, i agree with some other readers, how come this is taking 8+ years to get merely designed, i mean the pentagon was up in no-time flat, it just seems odd that this project has the feel of never-gonna-finish…its f-ing manhattan, geez, fill in the void so we can (sort of) move on, is this project gonna be done by 2011? probly not, well then will the doors be open by 2021? hopefully, but i wont hold my breath
all in all, i care not what the proposals will be or what the project will look like, whatever will be, will be, and we will appreciate whatever it becomes, my only wish? JUST GET TO WORK ALREADY!! I MEAN COME ON, the pyramids went up quicker than this
Thanks for any other excellent article. Where else may anybody get that type of info in such a perfect way of writing? I’ve a presentation subsequent week, and I am on the look for such information.
