Jönköping-Västra Kajen / Tham & Videgård Hansson Arkitekter

Our friends from Tham & Videgård Hansson Arkitekter sent us their latest project, a first prize in an invited housing competition in Sweden.
You can see some more images and drawings after the break.
Two six storey housing blocks located on the quayside in central Jönköping, Sweden. The facade, a wooden trellis, has been perforated with large openings which dissolves the scale.
The concept is to create attractive housing on one of the best sites in Jönköping, with a low energy, ecological perspective as the starting point.
All the apartments are built around a large vertical illuminated stairwell. Most of the apartments are located in the corners, providing good light and view opportunities.
An outer layer of terraces provide all apartments with outdoor spaces. By shifting the terraces every second storey, double-height spaces are created. A grid of wooden trellis diffuses the light and creates a buffer zone between inside and outside.

it´s so Pezo & Von Ellrichshausen.
These guys’ been at it since long before, check out the early private houses like Stocksund and Vasteras, and the Kalmar Art Museum. Real buildings. I like it.

Obviously it’s the opposite.
Igancio, Ricardo and Juan are so chilenian students.
I lived in Sweden for about 3 years. This is so Swedish architecture.
The Kamlmar museum they did is a really cool building BTW.
Pezo and Von something, who are they anyway?
I would say Pezo & Von Elrichshausen are so like these kind of works. how ever, i like these two architect offices.
Why is this project selected?
It all sounds okay, but XTREMELY boring…..
Show this stuff when it is built..
Pezo & Von Ellrichshausen ? ? ?
This is Eberle and Baumschlager esque.
don’t care if Pezo & Von or not….
but let’s see it built, and also, the concept only about the volumens themselves, what about the environment, the city the ground, the roof, surroundings…?
its nice to have a “buffer zone” but lets see more architecture and less CAD software shaped forms.

P&vE didn´t invent square… it not only squared windows that make this architecture interesting .

These guys made their Vasteras house (irregular squared windows) in 2000, P&vE was founded in 2001!

No mention of six-story walkup design. Why stairs and no elevator?
Multi-story stair usage cumbersome, tiresome, time-wasting.
