This week, with the help of our readers, our Architecture City Guide is headed to Shanghai. Shanghai is noted for having more Art Deco buildings than any other city, including László Hudec’s Park Hotel, which is not on our list but will be added in a future guide. Like many cities in China, Shanghai’s rapid growth has meant a boon in contemporary architecture styles. We put together a list of 12 modern/contemporary buildings that we feel provides a good starting point. It is far from complete. There are dozens of other great buildings that are not our list, and we are looking to add to the list in the near future. Please add your favorites in the comment section below so we can add them on the second go around. Again thank you to all our readers who sent in their suggestions and photographs. The city guides would not be possible without your help.
To check out other cities visit our world map or our Architecture City Guide page.

Beijing or Shanghai? I`am confused :(
Ok Shanghai I see lol
Shanghai 1933 isn’t on the list, and it is by far one of the most unique examples of architecture in the city. When asking professors and students at Tongji University in the Architecture department where to visit, it is the first place they mention.
check it out, and if you are traveling there, i highly recommend going.

I’m with Jeff, Shanghai 1933 should definitely be on the list. I’ve only been in Shanghai for 3 months, but out of all the buildings I’ve been to, it’s one that really stands out.
It would be great if the places indicated on the map and shown in pictures and listed are numbered and the number corresponds to the list and the picture. So scrolling between the three, your reader can see the approximate locations of the building they are intrigued with from the picture or noted on the listing on the map all at once.
Giant Headquarters by Morphosis. Its a bit of a drive, but still within city limits.
First of all thanks for the wonderful map, but I would like to report one wrong location. It is the Giant Interactive Group Headquarters, which is located much more far in Songjiang. GPS is: Latitude(31.05603027343750), Longitude(121.26719665527344)
