The project is located on the outskirts of Torrelles de Llobregat, a rural area in the Province of Barcelona, which is in the process of urbanization. Fragmenting and compacting the building in blocks reduces the impact of construction in the territory and resolves the relationship with the environment and topography.

Site Plan

In this type of public housing, the parallelepiped block has many advantages including: eco-biological, rational and constructive. It allows a low footprint on the territory because the insertion into landscape is resolved without volumetric or aesthetic violence, a rational depth (13.5 m), and adequate sunlight and ventilation.

Each block is defined as a sustainable building, compact optimizing energy loss in winter and summer earnings. The block type is organized with a total of 12 houses distributed as 4 dwellings per floor, where all houses are open to the best sunlight direction and the valley. An interior courtyard guarantees cross ventilation in single-façade dwellings.

In west façades there is a pine wood brise-soleil which provides shade, and generates a good vibration suitable for the image in the environment. This terrace acts as a sunscreen and dilutes the housing limits.

I live in one of them public housing of Torrelles and it is not as beauty as it is published in this resume.

    - Front wood panels do not reduces enough thermal impact of solar radiation from 3pm to 7pm and increase room and hall temperatures from 25 to 28 ºC. In winter sunlight cross absolutely all rooms till bathrooms, for 2 hours. And sun reflection with ceramic-white floor and wood panels in front do not filter enough.

    - All kind of voices/sounds from neighbors run along pipes set on bathrooms and kitchen. If we connect main air extractor (one each building) the noise from the extractor runs into each flat and rooms across air pipes. This extractor is the same for the common garage. Car gases or any could enter into homes.

Well, I do not wish to anyone pay more expensive for a public housing than a private housing, as we made. But we do not receive documentation of flat till paid completely through bank debt.

    - It is good to know there about 8 vacant flats due people do not wish to buy for an undocumented product, with not good references from people who lives there; always in relation of price of private and public housing. It seems more a fraud and a prison than others, but it is my flat (of the bank).

    Well, that’s all ;)
