The International Built Environment Week (IBEW) is the first fully-integrated event in the Asia Pacific covering the entire built environment value chain. Organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and supported by 12 Trade Associations and Chambers, the event will convene under the theme “Innovation: Powering Sustainable and Smarter Cities”.

A near-perpetual war in Afghanistan that has uprooted lives and severely impacted the country has rendered it to be called the “nation of widows”. The lives of Afghan widows, a number currently estimated to be near 70,000 in Kabul alone and nearly 1.5 Million in all of Afghanistan, are found to be at an inertial roadblock. The lack of any formal education, work opportunities, and even proper healthcare as decreed by the Taliban owing to archaic laws prevents them from acquiring the necessary means to earn a respectable livelihood or lead dignified lives.

The Call for Papers is now open for the international conference Critic|all IV, which is dedicated to themes related to architectural and urban criticism and theory. Critic|all is organized by ETSAM-UPM (Madrid), and its fourth edition will be held in partnership with FAUUSP and the PC3 Research Group.

Humans and technology today form an inseparable link that have profound implications for Earth’s ecosystems – leading to the debate for a new era: the Anthropologic. In recent years, the transition from analog to digital architecture has materialized through increasing availability of novel software and new methods in digital architecture fabrication – tooling. The cognitive and digital turn implies ubiquitous computing, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and material intelligence, but to mention a few. The resulting design strategies overwhelm our discipline of architecture, encouraging a re-thinking of architecture, the architect’s role and responsibility, as well as architectural education. The development of digital technologies is compounding the need to develop ethics for this new technological state – shifting computer architecture from its focus on technology to a focus on humans.

The 2019 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) officially opened on September 28. Organized by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, and the Yangpu District People's Government, this year’s edition continues to explore urban spatial themes against the backdrop of Shanghai’s ongoing urban renewal and development. The event is led by Chief Curator Fram Kitagawa, the founder and artistic director of Japan’s "Echigo-Tsumari Art Field" and "Setouchi Triennale." Yoshiyuki Kawazoe, an associate professor and architect at the University of Tokyo, serves as the curator for the Space Art section, while Professor Ruan Xin, founding dean and doctoral supervisor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Design, serves as the curator for the Planning and Architecture section. Zhang Ming, professor, doctoral supervisor, and deputy head of the Department of Architecture at Tongji University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, serves as the Chief Architect of the Art Season.

The six-state American Institute of Architects Western Mountain Region, established in 1959, is comprised of the AIA State Components of Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. This edition of the Pan-American Biennial of Architecture of Quito (BAQ) proposes a discussion on architecture centered on the notion of transformation. Through a critical analysis of projects that achieve such interventions, the focus will be on studying the transformative capacity of architecture—from the discipline itself toward the environment and the city—questioning existing systems of relationships and exploring new approaches that bridge the gap between the ideal and the real.

Casa FOA, the national architecture, interior design, landscaping, and industry exhibition, returns to the province of Buenos Aires after 11 years. Hosted at the Círculo de Olivos, the 36th edition will open its doors to the public from September 13 to October 20, marking its return to the Buenos Aires region for the first time since 2008, when Casa FOA dazzled at the Puerto de Frutos in Tigre.

Our hallmark is creating exhibition spaces in unconventional and timeless contexts, establishing a hub for the development of creative visual experiences. The space focuses primarily on the visual work of creatives, designers, visual artists, architects, collective projects, and new media, fostering an environment for exchange, exhibition, and promotion that connects with new audiences. It is open to contemporary creatives, hosting varied, transient, and dynamic exhibitions with the goal of generating mobility and circulation within a space centered on creative dissemination and promotion.

The International Workshop "Habitar o Centro" (Living in the Center) begins this Thursday and runs through September 30th, as part of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team (R/UDAT) program. The event aims to discuss alternatives for revitalizing the Gamboa area in Rio's Port Zone, ensuring it becomes a high-quality residential neighborhood once again. The opening ceremony will take place this Thursday, the 26th, at 7:30 PM at the IAB-RJ headquarters (Beco do Pinheiro, 10, Flamengo) and is open to the public.

Since the advent of the internet, advances in telecommunication and smartphone technology, and other new technological developments in the IT industry have triggered explosive levels of data production and direct consumption, all of which has led to an increase in NAVER’s IT infrastructure as well.
