YAC (Young Architects Competitions) and WWF launch WWF OBSERVATION CABINS, a competition of ideas for the design of some observation points and a visitors’ center for the WWF Oasis of Orbetello as a unique space to protect and safeguard nature.

The Drawing Matter Trust is pleased to announce the return of the Drawing Matter Writing Prize. The competition invites participants to carefully look at drawings and to consider what they reveal about the process of design, and the buildings or objects they represent.
The Writing Prize competition is open to anyone aged over 18, with or without a background in architecture or design. We welcome a broad range of approaches towards writing, and voices from art and architectural history, the sciences and humanities, alongside practitioners – architects, designers, artists and writers.
This year the competition will be judged by Prof. Adrian Forty and Prof. Briony Fer, with support from the Drawing Matter editorial team.
The competition winners, and other participants with outstanding entries, will be invited to publish their texts on Drawing Matter’s website. Covid-19 restrictions permitting, we hope to announce the winners on Saturday 17 July 2021 at the Drawing Matter Archive in Somerset.

The MEDIA ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE - MAB is the world’s premier event on media architecture, urban interaction design, and urban informatics. It brings together architects, artists and designers, leading thinkers on urban design, key industry and government representatives as well as community activists. Together, they explore the design and role of media in the built environment and its implications for urban communities and ecosystems.

BREAKING THE CYCLE:
DESIGNING FOR A COMMUNITY JUSTICE CENTRE

With the world constantly evolving, there is a ton of information being formulated out there. The human civilization is expected to keep up with this change and evolve with this developing world to open up multiple possibilities for a better future. Despite all the information available around us, the only way to best access it, is through reading and self-learning. As a major tool for the 21st century, self-learning is an important skill that is to be refined for future generations as they journey through education and beyond.

There is a growing modern trend of people abandoning their lives in large cities and opting instead to live in smaller communities. These intentional communities are an evolution of the utopian colonies and communes of the past, where individuals shared resources and responsibilities in equal measure. In the US alone the number of intentional communities has nearly doubled in recent years, with 1,200 communities registered in 2016.

The Media Architecture Biennale (MAB) is the world’s premier event on media architecture, urban interaction design, and urban informatics. It brings together architects, artists and designers, leading thinkers on urban design, key industry and government representatives as well as community activists. Together, they explore the design and role of media in the built environment and its implications for urban communities and ecosystems.

PENSARQ_, the architectural dissemination project by TAQ Arquitectura, will host its first series of free video Masterclasses.

The BrCidades project aims to set a new urban agenda focused on building cities that are economically dynamic, socially just, environmentally responsible, and culturally plural. During the period of social isolation, the network launched a weekly program, Meia Hora com o BrCidades, which aims to disseminate its agenda and, naturally, reflect on the changes brought about by the pandemic. With an irreverent and informal approach, the program invites prominent urbanists, researchers, professionals, and organizations committed to advancing these agendas to join the conversation.

Mobility is a central issue in inquiries and research regarding cities and urbanization processes.

With this in mind, and in conjunction with the curriculum of the "Mobility and the Contemporary City" postgraduate program, the online debate series "Mobility in Times of Crisis: The Challenges and the New Future of Urban Mobility Amidst Political, Economic, Social, and Health Crises" will take place.

Artist Fernando Prats and architects Mirene Elton, Mauricio Léniz, Francisco Cruz, and Eugenio Mandiola present the work "Su Vertical Nos Retiene"—a project located in Parque Bicentenario Cerrillos, Santiago, Chile. The streaming event will be moderated by Pola Mora, Head of Community & Partnerships at ArchDaily.
