To explore the work of the architect behind some of São Paulo's most iconic buildings, we invite you on a tour that spans from her residential designs to her powerful and democratic public spaces.

From May 16 to June 15, the Escola da Cidade Technical Council is hosting the "Vila dos Mellos Competition" exhibition, featuring thirty projects that showcase a landscape of high-quality architectural production.

Building on their 2018 work, WRI Brasil and the National Front of Mayors (FNP) are presenting the "Complete Streets and Universities Online Seminar" series in 2019.

Supported by the University Professors for Complete Streets Network—established by both organizations—the series aims to identify opportunities and challenges for integrating the Complete Streets concept into the education of future urban planners.

The 21st Brazilian Congress of Architects announced on Monday, May 27, an extension of the deadline for project submissions, now open until June 15 via the website www.21cba.com.br. The event will take place in Porto Alegre from October 9 to 12, 2019, and is organized by the IAB-RS.

The Félix Candela Award is an international architectural ideas competition conducted in Spanish, held in two phases. It is organized annually by the Spanish Institute of Architecture (IESARQ) and is open to students of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, and design, as well as young architects, landscape architects, urbanists, and designers, participating either individually or in teams of two or three.

The Museu da Cidade will open the installations "Chacina da Luz" and "Monumento Nenhum" by artist Giselle Beiguelman on Saturday, May 4, at 11:00 AM, at the Solar da Marquesa de Santos and Beco do Pinto, respectively. The works explore the loss of memory in public space and the city's relationship with its historical and cultural heritage. Composed of monument fragments, the installations replicate the state in which the pieces were found by the artist in public storage facilities, acting as a sort of "readymade" of oblivion.

Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena (1967), Pritzker Prize laureate and curator of the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale "Reporting From the Front," holds a position of particular relevance in contemporary architectural debate and production.

Aiming to shed light on the possibilities of urban voids, the International Open Call for Urban Intervention Projects “Outros Territórios” (Other Territories) was recently held, gathering proposals for ephemeral interventions for the “stilt structures” of buildings in the Buritis neighborhood of Belo Horizonte.

We understand culture as all the actions through which peoples express their ways of creating, doing, and living; scientific, artistic, and technological creations; works, objects, documents, buildings, and other spaces intended for artistic-cultural manifestations; as well as urban complexes and sites of historical, landscape, artistic, archaeological, paleontological, ecological, and scientific value. Culture encompasses both the language through which people communicate, tell their stories, and write their poems, as well as how they build their homes, prepare their food, pray, and celebrate.

{CURA} has opened registration for the 8th "Entre Coletivos," to be held at the course's headquarters in São Paulo, starting at 7:00 PM on May 31st. The chosen theme is Landscape Architecture, and the firms Oficina2Mais and Seiva have been invited to participate.

CineCubo is a film club hosted by the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) aimed at fostering dialogue between audiovisual and architectural languages and debating perspectives on the city. On the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM, CineCubo screens films followed by a discussion at the IAB-SP headquarters. Curated and moderated by Nana Maiolini, Travessia Filmes, and guests, the sessions are free and open to the general public.

This year marks the third week of urbanism-related activities hosted by the TransLAB.URB collective. Once again, the event celebrates the transformative power of walking in partnership with the international Jane's Walk community. Taking place from May 3rd to 5th, the event honors the life and work of activist and urbanist Jane Jacobs during the 2nd Jane's Walk Porto Alegre.

The objective of this workshop is to reflect on our roles as professionals, educators, and students of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urbanism, and Design. Participants will explore the application of forces and the assembly of structures—ranging from the scale of the human body to large-scale projects—while establishing a fundamental link between the construction process and structural analysis (spatial and organic).

The book Parques urbanos de São Paulo (Urban Parks of São Paulo) features photographic essays documenting the daily life of thirteen parks in São Paulo, as diverse as the city and its population: parks in the center and the periphery, new and old, famous and locally known. The photos reveal the plurality of uses that residents make of these spaces, and surprise by showing them from a detached perspective, focusing equally on both planned and incidental aspects. The book launch will take place, fittingly, at Ibirapuera Park on May 11th at 11:00 AM.

On the 14th, the IAB-RJ headquarters hosted the launch of the new season of courses for its continuing education program, IAB Compartilha. The event was attended by the program's 19 instructors, as well as students and professionals interested in the proposed topics. Building on the educational initiatives resumed in 2016, the 2019 edition offers a wide range of courses designed to share the expertise of professionals who are leaders in the various fields that make up the broad spectrum of architecture and urbanism. With three years of experience offering courses at its historic headquarters, IAB-RJ has solidified its position as a vital resource for those looking to deepen and enhance their knowledge and professional development—a necessity in this field.

For over 10 years, residents of the San German neighborhood have developed various public space and infrastructure improvement projects that have enabled them to enhance their living conditions. To promote social and cultural community improvement projects, the San German community, in partnership with various organizations, is organizing the 3rd Workshop on Emerging Architecture and Urbanism. This workshop serves as a space focused on the exchange of knowledge among neighborhood residents, students, professionals, and anyone interested in participating in the construction of various projects through collaborative processes.
