Architectural Competition:
NEW SPATIAL REALITY OF CITIES – POST COVID-19

This design competition is part of a joint research initiative of the Concordia University Chair of Integrated Design, Ecology, and Sustainability for the Built Environment (IDEAS-BE) and the Canada Research Chair in Architecture, Competitions, Mediations of Excellence (CRC ACME) at Université de Montréal in collaboration with the Conseil reìgional de l’environnement de Montréal (CRE-Montreal) and the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM).

What Design Can Do is calling on designers and creatives around the world to join the No Waste Challenge, our third Climate Action Challenge in partnership with the IKEA Foundation.

Imagine urban surroundings that bring you closer to nature, thanks to renewable materials nurturing all of your senses.

In this competition, we ask participants to design a cycling bridge in the context of Amsterdam, an effective connection over the river Ij for pedestrians and cyclists – 1 design expressed in 3 drawings.

Millions of people around the world are thinking about how they can radically change their lives for the better. Could living in a tiny house be one of those ways?

After putting his career as an architect on hold to fight the first world war between 1914 and 1918, Walter Gropius sensed the world needed a radical change, a change in which arts and architecture would play a fundamental role.

Quelle Architecture has recently launched a participatory study open to all on the impact of the containment we are experiencing. This study would be a collection of ideas, drawings, texts, models..., making it possible to show how everyone imagines their future home or the ideal dwelling in which to live through their confinement. To do this, we propose two models that can be used: a building or a housing unit. All proposals are welcome, from the most utopian to the most realistic.

INST’s launch exercise seeks to create a collection of new foundational concepts for the project that is just beginning.

It is a challenging time for the industry.
Lots of architectural projects are being frozen or delayed indefinitely due to the global circumstances.

In MARTA we don’t want to stand back!
Within mutually beneficial we would like to push the situation and help both:
▪️architects — to push projects with inspiring images
▪️us — to create great artwork for the portfolio

Leveraging this moment’s elevated awareness of the experiences of women in the workplace, and building on the collective action of multiple waves of women’s activism before us, we aim to create a space for dialogue. This initiative acknowledges and is motivated by the historical exclusion of women from the shaping of our environments and the minimizing of their contributions. The main objective is to provide a platform to ask what it means to be a woman in architecture, and through collaboration and exploration propose how it can be different.

Strelka Institute’s The Terraforming program is an interdisciplinary design research think-tank convened to preemptively address issues of planetary urbanism. The name refers to the need to fundamentally transform Earth’s cities, technologies, and ecosystems to ensure that the planet will be capable of supporting Earth-like life. Artificiality, astronomy, and automation form the basis of that alternative planetarity. With the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, what began as speculative has become real-time.
