Entorno Taller de Paisaje is a Mexico City-based firm currently composed of an interdisciplinary team of architects, landscape architects, and artisans dedicated to the design, development, execution, and consulting of landscape projects at architectural, urban, and regional scales. The firm also operates an experimental workshop located in one of the remaining pockets of the Xochimilco chinampa zone, a space where stone materials and vegetation from different regions of the country are collected with the goal of adapting and promoting their use over commercial ornamental vegetation.
Tonatiuh Martínez Maldonado was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, in 1962. He has worked as a self-taught landscape architect since 1985. He completed a landscape diploma program at the Universidad Iberoamericana and various professional development courses in landscape architecture. As the founder of Entorno Taller de Paisaje, he has collaborated since the firm's inception in 1988 with practices such as TAX Taller de Arquitectura X (led by architect Alberto Kalach), TGL Teodoro González de León, and LBC Arquitectos, among others.
Hugo Sánchez was born in Morelos in 1973. He earned his architecture degree from Universidad La Salle in 1996 and was a participant in the Young Creators program in 2000. He obtained a Master’s degree in landscape architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2002 (with a CONACYT scholarship). He practiced professionally in the field for two years in Barcelona, Spain, with the firms of architects Manuel Ruisanchez and Manuel Colominas. In Mexico, he collaborated with firms such as TEN Arquitectos, Taller de Arquitectura X, and BGP Arquitectura. He has been a member of Entorno Taller de Paisaje since 2005.

For the second consecutive year, the Cultural Foundation of Architects of La Rioja is joining the Women in Art Festival in La Rioja. The Foundation seeks to promote the various fields of architecture in all their facets, as well as the diverse roles of women within them.

The 2019 Informal Means Symposium: Alternative Practices in Latin America will showcase unconventional production methods and professional empowerment within the built environment.

As part of the Cities Platform developed by the School of Architecture, Art and Design at Tec de Monterrey, architect Alejandro Echeverri will deliver a lecture at the Teatro de la República in Querétaro on Tuesday, March 5, at 6:00 p.m.

The work of Julio Amezcua, director of AMEZCUA Estudio de Arquitectura, is defined by its consistently contemporary, creative, and inherently harmonious nature. A masterful use of space and the thoughtful application of materials lend a solid character to the work, which seeks to improve the quality of life for its inhabitants and the cities it occupies.

On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 7:00 PM, Argument01: Sampling Contexts—published by DPA Prints and Ediciones Asimétricas—will be presented at Roca Gallery Madrid. The event will feature the series' curators and editors, invited participants (PYO, Taller de Casquería, and Gonzalo del Val), Enrique Encabo, and DJ Juanito Jones.

On March 29 at 7:00 PM, IED will host the free debate "Augmented City – Design and Creativity as Transformative Elements of Urban Territories," featuring Italian architect and urban planner Maurizio Carta (b. 1967, Palermo), Rio de Janeiro-based architect and urban planner Pedro Évora (b. 1978), and Andrea Matarazzo, with moderation by designer Alexandre Salles. The event is part of the Italian Design Day program, established by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the influence of Italian design in cities worldwide. Maurizio Carta is the author of several publications and explores the concept of the "augmented city" in books such as Dynamics of Periphery: Atlas of Emerging Creative Resilient Habitats and Territories: Rural-Urban Strategies, both co-authored with J. Schroeder, M. Ferretti, and B. Lino, and published by Jovis, Berlin, in 2018 and 2017, respectively. He is a full professor of urban and regional planning in the Department of Architecture at the University of Palermo and serves as the ambassador for Italian Design Day 2019.

3rd Edition of the 'Arquitectura en corto' Series: Inside or Outside?

Through June 9, 2019, Fundación PROA will host the exhibition "Design in Action. Contemporary Intersections." Curated by Martín Huberman, Olga Martínez, and María Laura Carrascal, the exhibition reflects on the presence of design in daily life, highlighting the multiplicity of aesthetics, viewpoints, and vital, substantial themes that reveal themselves and coexist in our present.
The selected projects cover three categories: Objects, Urbanism, and Fashion, questioning current quality of life as a common denominator and reclaiming the regional work of artisans through a contemporary lens.

Architect and urban planner Elizabeth de Portzamparc, who has been based in Paris for 50 years, has distinguished herself through large-scale projects that won major international competitions in France and China. On Thursday, March 21, 2019, she will speak at the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Urca, Rio de Janeiro, on "New architecture and the architecture of connections." During the talk, she will address her key projects and the set of ethical concepts she advocates for 21st-century architecture—such as sustainable development, social connections, respect for the urban context, and flexibility for the future, which opens possibilities for subsequent interventions. On this occasion, she will also launch her monographic book, which traces her professional trajectory.

WorkSpaces for Tomorrow is an open competition for students and professionals in architecture, design, engineering, or any other related field.

Archstorming is collaborating on this new competition with His Hands On Africa ("HHOA"), a non-profit organization founded in 2016 that aims to address the lack of dental services in developing countries. The chosen location is Rwanda, a small country in the heart of Africa.

The Biennial of Latin American Architecture (BAL) began in 2008 with the goal of identifying the most recent and notable examples of new architecture in Latin America, creating a forum to strengthen ties on both sides of the ocean, bridge distances, and establish a firm, solid counterpoint to the Anglo-Saxon world.

The second phase of the 3rd Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition is now underway. This international contest aims to "promote the practice of architecture and urbanism that preserves and continues local traditions" in the Spanish cities of Guadix (Granada), Olite (Navarra), and Béjar (Salamanca).

The Institute of Architecture and Urbanism at the Austral University of Chile (UACh) invites all architects in Chile to apply for the Marta Scheu Torres Award. ArchDaily is the official media partner for this competition, which aims to recognize outstanding women professionals in architecture and urbanism.

Established in 2016, the award was first presented in 2017 to Macarena Almonacid for her fruitful work in the restoration of the churches of Chiloé. In 2017, it was awarded to Emelyn de Los Ríos, National Coordinator of the Public Spaces Program at the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism.

Architects from indigenous peoples in Canada, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Argentina will discuss new concepts regarding habitat and housing as part of the 1st International Colloquium on New Indigenous Architecture in the Americas, which will be held at the Mariano Moreno National Library from March 18 to 22.
