The event is part of the ‘Housing the Basque Country’ exhibition program, promoted by the Basque Government's Department of Environment, Territorial Planning, and Housing.

Joining the previously announced Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa—founders of the firm SANAA and 2010 Pritzker Prize laureates—, Martha Thorne, Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize and Dean of the IE School of Architecture and Design, and László Baán, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, are Lars Lerup, a Swedish architect and global expert on cities, former Dean of the Rice School of Architecture in Texas; Ricardo Devesa, architect and editor-in-chief of Actar Publishers and UrbanNext; and Walter Mariotti, editorial director of DOMUS. The festival will also feature Hannah Rothschild, a prominent figure in the international art world, collector, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery.

The ‘Housing the Basque Country’ exhibition will bring together five former Housing Ministers in Bilbao for the first time.

The Basque Country is one of Spain’s most advanced autonomous communities in terms of public housing, thanks to policies sustained since the transfer of powers in 1981. Regardless of the political party in office, laws and regulations have evolved to meet societal demands. After 37 years, what remains to be done? In what direction should public housing policy move?

The close bond between cinema and architecture in the Norman Foster Foundation's upcoming series in Madrid

In conjunction with the 15th Madrid Architecture Week, the Norman Foster Foundation presents Architecture on Screen, a film series curated by the foundation for Sala Equis in the Spanish capital.

Since the early 20th century, both architecture and film have found ways to express new ideas and develop avant-garde languages. Avant-garde movements, such as Futurism, established a close link between art, film, and architecture. As seen in the drawings of Sant'Elia, they convey the concept of the industrial city, moving trains, and buildings inspired by hydroelectric power plants, using the machine as a metaphor.
