The Terrain Lab Visiting School is a 10-day research workshop held in collaboration with the Architectural Association in London and the University of Navarra. This year, it will take place at the University of Navarra School of Architecture in Pamplona from June 25 to July 5, 2018. The Lab investigates the geographic, socioeconomic, and cultural forces that shape each territory to formulate hypotheses regarding the future production of landscapes and anthropized territories.
In 2018, we will continue to explore the territories of the Ribera Navarra, which have been shaped by large-scale hydraulic engineering projects necessary for the intensive agricultural model developed in recent years. These technological advances in irrigation and cultivation techniques have led to radical alterations in the landscape, which we will examine to understand their consequences and analyze their footprint. At the same time, the popularity of Spanish cuisine has led Europe to discover high-quality products within the Spanish market. In this context, Terrain Lab will develop a critical perspective through design and research into gastronomy as a tool for the territory's socioeconomic development and its urban implications.
We will study the manufactured territories of the Ribera Navarra to understand agriculture and gastronomy as fundamental ingredients in building local identity and driving economic progress.
