As our future megacities are defining themselves every day with bustling streets and soaring skyscrapers, a city still craves for many things but mostly - an identity. The 21st century from its onset is rapidly changing how we live and how we perceive the definitions of a city rampantly.
The international competition Architecture of Necessity is a part of the project WOOD2019 that Virserum Konsthall arrange with the support from the Municipality of Hultsfred and the Regional Federation of Kalmar County. The international manifesto on the Architecture of Necessity was first launched in 2009. Earlier exhibitions in 2010, 2013 and 2016 have together received 600 entries from more than 40 countries.

On the one hand, it will actively coordinate and utilize S&T innovation resources from all around the world to build an internationalized and open regional innovation system and a novel cooperative community for the Greater Bay Area. On the other hand, as one of the dual centers of the city, Qianhai will promote axial coordinated development of urban functions, strengthening the regional service functions of modern service industries while further aggregating urban public service functions to create a new mixed-use urban center.

In its 10th edition, MEDS Workshop is going to take place this year in Greece, on Spetses Island with its theme “MEMNISO,” which in ancient Greek means “to remember.” The idea of the workshop is to bring traditional professionals together with contemporary crafts and design by exploring new capabilities and learning techniques from local expert craftsmen. Outros Territórios (Other Territories) is a suite of ephemeral interventions proposed for a hilly neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, Brazil called Buritis. The plan envisages an instantaneous transformation of the landscape through the simultaneous occupation of the many stilt systems propping up the hillside buildings.
YAC - Young Architects Competitions and Arte Sella launched “Calamity Atelier,” a competition of ideas to regenerate the greatest and most prestigious art park in the world which was heavily damaged by an unprecedented storm last October. With the help of Empresa de Desarrollo Urbano/Urban Development Company (EDU) and La Sociedad Colombiana de Arquitectos/the Colombian Architect's Society (SCA), Medellín has launched an international competition to design a space to remember and reflect on the period between 1983 and 1994.
These years were some of the most violent in the Colombian city's history. In January 1988, a car bomb with 80 kilos of dynamite exploded in front of the Monaco Building, the former home of drug lord Pablo Escobar in El Poblado neighborhood. This was the first of a series of attacks between rival drug cartels in Medellin.
Qianhai is in western Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary, near Hong Kong; it is the future demonstration area of in-depth cooperation of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and new urban center. It’s in order to plan and construct a bunch of high-level and high-quality landmark buildings, forming new landmarks in Qianhai in terms of model, design, and function, etc., and increase the influence and appeal of the region. There are plans to build Qianhai International Financial Exchange Center at Unit 1, Guiwan Area, Qianhai, and currently the Tender for the Architectural Scheme Design of Qianhai International Financial Exchange Center (hereinafter referred to as the "project") is in progress.
This project is hosted by the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone and organized by the Shenzhen Qianhai Development Investment Holdings Co., Ltd. We sincerely invite the domestic and overseas design organizations and winners of famous architectural design awards to participate in the project. Concéntrico 05, the Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design, seeks to reflect on the urban environment and the city through different formats of architectural and design projects. The next edition will take place on 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 April and 1 May 2019.
Every year, the Festival is visited by a large public. In 2018, it received 18 000 visitors and has been widely published in France and abroad.
For the 14th edition, the Festival des Architectures Vives in Montpellier will take place from June the 11th to the 16th 2019. The festival thematic is Beauty. The FAV will keep to aware a wide public to architecture, to highlight a young generation of architects and to discover places from the urban heritage.
