23rd Heritage Conference - Palimpsest: Present Memories

The 3rd Academic Week of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (SemEA FAU UFRJ) is a free event, organized entirely by students with the support of FAU UFRJ, collectives, and academic institutions, aiming to expand debate and education through lectures, workshops, exhibitions, discussions, and cultural activities. In its third edition, the event will take place on October 1, 2, and 3, 2025, at the Jorge Machado Moreira Building, home to the FAU and the UFRJ School of Fine Arts.

In September 2000, architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha proposed something both possible and impossible: covering the Praça da República in downtown São Paulo with a suspended pool-beach. This provocative gesture challenges latent societal issues: the right to leisure, idleness, celebration, hygiene, self-care, sociability, entertainment, and the body. "Canteens, machine-locker rooms, and ramps" are nearly all the words that permeate this narrative project and inspire our workshop.

The Institute of Architects of Brazil, in collaboration with IABsp, is pleased to invite you to the panel discussion "Contemporary Architecture in Latin America: Experiences in Argentine Production," which will be held next Monday, April 7, at 7:00 PM, at the IABsp headquarters. This event aims to foster an exchange of ideas and experiences among architects and students, focusing on the paths and challenges faced by contemporary architecture in Argentina. The guest speakers for the discussion are architects Gabriel Biagioni and Gastón Kibysz.

Poetic collective hosts a gathering on June 28, with free admission

The activation is based on the work “Só por es-tar” [Just to Be] by the São Paulo-based visual artist and poet, which is part of a group exhibition inspired by a book by South Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han.

The Tishman Speyer Pavilion was conceived to engage with the urban space—facilitating experiences, the exchange of ideas, and connections—while simultaneously serving as a refuge from the bustle of modern life. Open to the public free of charge, the space brings together works by renowned artists such as Artur Lescher, Tomie Ohtake, and Amélia Toledo.
The Pavilion is a work of art that provides experiences and connects the neighborhood to the future. The architectural design was developed by Atelier Peclat and consists of sandblasted glass block walls, reviving an element of 1960s architecture. This structure lends an intangible quality to the space, with its transparencies and opacities, creating a sense of mystery through the interplay of light and shadow formed between the interior and exterior areas.

The UFRRJ SEMAU is an academic event conceived by students with the support of the Architecture and Urbanism program. Now in its fifteenth (15th) edition, the event’s primary objective is to foster the exchange of experiences and enrich academic training through lectures, practical workshops, exhibitions, debates, and cultural activities that broaden perspectives on the profession and its multifaceted experiences.

The architecture competition to design the future Environmental Education Center at the La Laja landfill seeks to propose a space that promotes understanding the landfill as an educational site for human adaptation toward responsible consumption and a shift in how household solid waste is conceptualized, focusing on reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting.

Since 1998, Arquine has hosted an architecture competition that allows for the comparison of ideas and proposals on equal footing.
