This book gathers a selection of writings organized into two basic categories: profiles of historical and contemporary architects, ranging from Adolf Loos to the British collective Assemble, and chronicles of buildings—primarily Spanish, though interspersed with European excursions. Straddling the line between the rigor of critical essays and the pleasure that any narrative should provide, these “non-fiction works” are constructed from a unique way of observing architecture, far removed from the clichés common in mainstream media.

In these pages, the author opens avenues for discussion by analyzing established milestones and contextualizing new values in contemporary architecture: the successes and contradictions of Mies van der Rohe and Alejandro de la Sota, the tragic gravity of Gordon Matta-Clark, or the revolutionary ambition of Konstantín Mélnikov. The masquerade Smiljan Radić has constructed in Vilches, an unopened shoe store by Paco Alonso, the construction of an oeuvre by Arquitectura-G, and Valerio Olgiati’s Palladian house share space with Aldo Rossi’s diatribes or Reyner Banham’s analysis of the city of Los Angeles. A panoramic view of projects and figures shapes this "anti-chatter" that seeks to invite a public exercise in dialogue.

The Wood Design & Building Awards program recognizes design teams that are passionate about celebrating wood as a safe, strong and sophisticated building material. Projects submitted to the Wood Design & Building Awards program are accepted from Canada, US, and internationally, adding value to the diversity of wood building application examples.

Capital city Podgorica has launched an international competition to obtain the best conceptual urban and architectural design for the Morača riverbed and banks. Designs should aim to establish a new connection between the city and the river in the best possible way and to provide a new unique space for leisure and recreation for the benefit of inhabitants and visitors of Podgorica.

The Architecture and Urbanism program at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) is hosting a series of public lectures centered on the theme "São Paulo, Expanded Center: Many people without homes, many homes without people." The virtual sessions will be held via Zoom on October 22 and 29, at 5:00 PM.

Perkins and Will’s design, Tubes ‘n’ Tunnels was selected as a winning entry to be built as an immersive experience at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center’s 16-acre Arboretum. The design competition, named “Fortlandia,” seeks to inspire adults and children to explore outdoors with an appreciation of art and nature in a series of temporary installations along the one-mile walking path. To amplify the beauty of the natural environment, Perkins and Will’s Tubes ‘n’ Tunnels installation bridges a connection between nature and the built environment to highlight how humans view the world, framing a series of landscape vistas in a playful interactive installation.

This is the second in a series of panel sessions launching the fourth volume of Bracket, titled Takes Action. Bracket [Takes Action] collects essays and projects that question how actions can be designed, accommodated for, and encouraged through both creative practice and design citizenship.
