Winter Stations is a single-stage international design competition held annually in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Participants are tasked with designing temporary winter art installations which incorporate existing lifeguard towers spaced strategically across the city’s Kew and Woodbine beaches. The structures (not in use in the wintertime) must not be ignored in the design and can be used as either an armature for the installations, a central feature, or other- wise linked to the installation.

The September 2020 issue of a+u: Architecture and Urbanism, Japan’s premier monthly architecture magazine, has been dedicated to MAD Architects. This marks the 600th issue of the celebrated journal.

The book’s title is a provocation—an invitation to rethink landscape not as a given, but as something constructed through history, design, art, technique, representation, and experience, among other lenses.

Situaciones summarizes part of the work developed by the architecture and design office República Portátil between 2003 and 2018. As part of the commemorative events for World Architecture Day 2020, the Valencia-based firm ERRE arquitectura will host a conference on Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 PM. The firm will present their most significant built works, such as L'Alqueria del Basket and Marina de Empresas in Valencia, as well as ongoing projects like the Valencia Arena multipurpose venue, which has recently broken ground.

FOCO is a lecture series organized by the University Commission of the Sociedad Central de Arquitectos every Saturday at 7:00 PM. Alejandro de la Sota is one of the great masters of modern Spanish architecture, the author of such notable buildings as the Civil Government (Tarragona, 1957–1964) and the Maravillas School gymnasium (Madrid, 1960–1962).

This book compiles various essays, originally published in different media, in which the Galician architect reflects on the legacy of the Modern Movement and its atypical integration into the cultural landscape of Franco-era Spain. Simultaneously, it serves as a chronicle of the challenges faced by Spanish architecture from the 1950s until the architect’s death in 1996.

Curated by the Politecnico di Torino (Michele Bonino and Francesca Governa, with the collaboration of Francesco Carota, Maria Paola Repellino and Angelo Sampieri) and by Prospekt Photographers (Samuele Pellecchia, Francesco Merlini) with Tsinghua University in Beijing, the exhibition is the result of years of research and offers the public a new and broad perspective that traces a line of continuity between past, present and future, connecting the culture of traditional China with the impressive transformations of contemporary Chinese cities.

Cuban Architecture: The New Movement is our third virtual event in the series which was kicked-off with ​Chilean Architectural Design and ​Detrás del Muro (Behind the Wall)​. The festival highlights projects from the past 10 years and will include global panel discussions, documentary film premieres, and presentations from leading experts and artists from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, US.
